STEWART R. LOCKRIDGE, OF I i/ARM SPRINGS, VIRGINIA.
WIBE-STRETCHER SLAM E.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, STEWART It. Loonnmen, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVarm Springs, in the county of Bath, State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in vVire-Stretcher Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invent-ion relates to wire stretcher clamps.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a wire stretcher clamp for holding independent or woven wire fencing whereby same is securely clamped during the operation of stretching same.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a wire stretcher clamp which will be simple in construction, efficient in use, and which may be manufactured at comparatively small cost.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a clamp constructed in accordance with the invention, same being shown operatively associated with a wire fence. Fig. 2 an enlarged section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 an enlarged section on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 a detail perspective view of one of the hinged clamps of the device detached.
Referring to the drawings the clamp is shown as comprising cooperating sections or bars 10 and 11. The inner face of the bar 10 has secured thereto a metallic strip 12 said strip being disposed longitudinally of the bar 10. Passing through the strip 12 at spaced points are bolts 13, the heads of said bolts being retained between the strip 12 and the bar 10. These bolts 13 are adapted to engage in recesses 1% formed in the inner face of the bar 11 whereby said bars 10 and 11 are held against relative lateral and longitudinal movement when disposed in co- Specification of Letters Patent.

operative relation. Bolted upon the inner face of the bar 11 on each side of the longitudinal axis of said bar are metallic strips 15 and 16 which serve as gripping elements for wire disposed between the bars 10 and 11.
The bars 10 and 11 are held against bodily movement away from each other by means of clamps A disposed respectively adjacent the ends of said bars. These clamps A are formed of hinged sections 17 and 18 each of which is of substantially U-shape and the former rigidly secured to the bar 10. The ends of the sections 17 and 18 are bent outwardly to form ears 19 and 20 respectively and these ears are provided respec tively with perforations 21 and 22. To secure the bars in cooperating relation the bolts 13 are inserted in the recesses 14 and the sections 18 of the clamps A then moved into embracing relation with the bar 11. The ends of the sections 17 and 18 are secured together by a T-shaped member C the arms of which are threaded and pass through the perforations 21 and 22 respectively. Nuts 23 are then screwed upon the arms of the T-shaped member C and in this manner the bars 10 and 11 are drawn toward each other so as to firmly clamp the fence wire therebetween preliminary to the operation of stretching. The stems of the T-shaped members C terminate at their outer ends in eyes 2d respectively which serve as a means for connecting the clamp to the stretching chain of any desired type of stretcher.
What I claim is A wire stretcher clamp comprising cooperating bars, a metallic strip secured against the inner face of one of said bars and extending longitudinally thereof, studs mounted at spaced points in said strip and extending laterally of the bar, the other of said bars being provided on its inner face with spaced recesses receiving said studs respectively, metallic strips mounted on the inner face of the second named bar and disposed respectively on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis thereof, and clamping members disposed at each end of said bars to secure same against bodily movement away from each other, each of said clamping members comprising hinged sections of substantially U-shape one of which is rigidly secured to the first named bar in embracing 2 ooo eo? the stem of each of the t -shaped members 10 for securlng same to stl'etcinng ehnln.
