Description

'H. C. wucox. Bottle-Stopper Locks.
- Patented Dec. 15, 1874.
U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORACE C. WILCOX, OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-STOPPER LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,900, dated December 15, 1874 application filed November 23, 1874.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HORACE C. WILGOX, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Bottle-Stopper Lock and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-- Figure 1, a front view 5 Fig. 2, a vertical central section.
This invention relates to an improvement in device for stopping or closing bottles, the object being to lock the stopper, so as to prevent its removal except by the party possessing the key to unlock the stopper; and it consists in combining with the bottle stand or caster a rod in connection with or bearing upon the stopper, and extending into or through the frame, and a suitable lock to prevent the axial movement of the said bolt until the said lock be disengaged.
A is the base upon which rests the bottle B, with a suflicient guard around to prevent the bottle from being taken from the base except by raising it above said guard. From the base a yoke, C, or other device extends up and over the stopper D. E is a bolt, preferably directly over, and permanently attached to, the stopper, and extending up through the yoke C, and so as to be moved vertically, as denoted in broken lines, Fig. 2, to remove or allow of the removal of the stopper. Through the bolt E a lock of any suitable character, here represented as a padlock, is placed, so as to secure the bolt in its position to hold the stopper in the bottle. This prevents the opening of the bottle, and, at the same time, prevents the removal of the bottle from the frame or caster.
To open or remove the bottle, unlock the bolt E and raise it, as in broken lines, Fig. 2. If it be attached to the stopper that will rise with the bolt; if not, the stopper may be removed in the usual manner after the bolt is raised.
I claim-- In combination with a bottle and its stopper, a base inclosing the lower part of the bottle, a yoke or frame, a bolt arranged in said yoke or frame so as to bear upon said stopper, and a locking device for'said bolt, substantially as described.
