Description
W. WEIS.
I Egg-Carriers;
, N0.157,89 6. Patented Dec. l5,1874.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WENDELIN WEIS, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN EGG-CARRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,896, dated December 15, 1874; application filed September 19, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WENDELIN WEIS, of St. Paul, in' the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Egg-Garrier, of which the following is a specification:
The accompanying drawing represents a sectional side view of my improved egg-carrier, showing connection of interlacing strips and hinged top part.
My invention relates to a simple and durable egg-carrier and consists of securely interlocking strips, forming the cells for the eggs, fruit, or other article, in connection with a hinged and protecting top partition applied thereto.
1n the drawing, A and B represent the rectan gular] y-interlacin g strips of my egg-carrier, by which the cells are formed. The strips A are wider than strips B, and are provided with central slits a, cut equidistant from each other, of slightly bent or are shape, with straightends, between which short segmental interlocking pieces or tongues I) are formed. The narrower strips B are equal in width to the slits a, and have small straight central slits d, which are equal in width to the tongues b of the wider strips A.
The strips B may be readily interlaced with the strips A by bending them under slight concavity along their full length and slipping them into the arc-shaped slits of the strips A until the segmental tongues lock into the straight slits of strips B, and produce thereby a neat, cheap, and secure interlocking of the strips for the formation of the cells.
The horizontal top partition 0 is connected by means of leather bands 6, fastened by e elets f, or other suitable hinge device, to the outermost wider strips A, for the purpose of being readily swung into open position, allowing the ready taking out and replacing of the cells without the loss of any partitions, the same forming one part with the separate tiers of cells. The hinged top part folds also readily over the folded-up cell-strips, so that not more space for return shipment is required than heretofore.
In my former patent, No. 153,027, there was required a very considerable bend in the interlacing sections in order to enable them to pass through the slits, which caused many to break at the weak side points, whereas by my present invention this is entirely avoided.
What I claim as new is- The combination, with wide strips A, having arc-shaped straight-end slits a and tongues 11, of the narrow strips B, having slits d, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
WENDELIN WEIS. Witnesses:
