To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILHELM B. BRON- ANDER, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in cigar bunch sha ing mechanisms and it has for its main ob ect the simplification of mechanisms of this character whereby costof construction and maintenance is creased and efficiency is increased; With this and other objects not specifically Inentionedin view, the inventionconsists in certain constructions and combinations which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically pointed out in the claims hereunto appended. In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate the same or like parts, Fig.1 is a side elevation of a device constructed'in accordance with the invention, with, certain parts removed; Figs. 2, 3 and 4' are similar views showing the parts in diflerent relation; Figs. 5 and 6 are opposite end elevations of the structure shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive; and Fig. 7 is a fragmentary plan view of the shaping members when in coacting position.
-In carrying the invention into effect, there is provided a single cam-controlled actuator,
' a'plurality of shaping members, and interposed operating connections whereby movement' of the-actuator produces movements of the shaping members to cause them to coact on the ends of acigar bunch. In the best constructions, the operating connections move a part of said shaping members in one direction, and the other part in another direction. As shown, the shaping members 15which are bolted to the head 14 are given 'a reciprocating movement by means of a link 19, one end of which is pivoted at 20 to a boss 21 formed on the head 14. The other end of the link 19-is pivotally connected at 22 to the actuator 9 before referred to. At the proper time, the
actuator 9 is rocked on its pivot, and this rocking movement actuates the link 19, which, in turn raises or lowers the post 13, the head 14 and two of the shaping members 15, as the case may be.

This cam surface is in contact with a cam bowl 25 carried on the lower end of the swinging bracket 17, and when the actuator 9 is rocked this cam device serves to swing the bracket 17 from the position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 2 during the first part ofits movement, and'to hold it in the latter position during the latter part of its movement. A spring 26, the ends of which are respectively connected to a stud 27 on the bracket 17 and to a stud 28 formed on the end of the actuator pivot, serves to hold the cambowl 25 in contact with the A cigar shown in Fig. 1. A further rocking movement of the actuator in the same direction results in elevating the shaping members carried by the head 14 to their upper most position, the other shaping members being held stationary by the rolling contact of the cam bowl 25 on the cain surface 24. In this position the hunch is shaped, and upon a reverse rocking movement of the actuator 9'tl1e shaping members are separated in order that the bunch may be taken from between them. There is further provided bunchtrimming means, and this means is also operated by the same cam-controlled actuator which operates the shaping members. In the mechanism shown, both ends of the bunch are trimmed and consequently there are two bunch trimming members marked 29. One of the trimming members 29 is screwed to the upper end of an arm 30, fast on the shaft 16 before referred to; the other one is screwed to the upper end of a lever 31 also fast on the shaft 16. This lever 31 hasa short arm 32 which lies in the path of a stud 33 carried on an arm 34 formed on the actuator 9. A stop 35 adjustably secured in a boss 36' formed on the lever 17 limits the movement of the lever 31 in one direction,

throws the trimming members into operation. When the actuator has rocked in the opposite direction the trimming means 15 first thrust back to its normal position, then the post 13 is lowered, and during the latter part of its down movement the bracket 17 is swung outwardly to release the shaped prising a single cam-controlled actuator, a
