597,488. Beat-up motions; reeds. SHIMWELL, D. W. Aug. 21, 1945, No. 21378. [Class 142 (in)] A beat-up mechanism of a narrow-ware loom is characterized in that the reed a which effects beat-up is carried between links beach of which is pivoted at one end to a slide c movable in a slot d and at the other end to a lever f pivotally carried by an arm g turning about a fixed point h, the other end of the lever f being coupled to a lever i which is oscillated about a fixed point j by a crank pin, the arrangement being such that the links b and levers f, i are substantially in line at the beat-up position and the reed has a substantially vertical arcuate movement only whilst the crank-pin moves through a considerable arc about its dead centre position. The reed has a straight top part with a curved or angled lower part.
