IMPROVEMENT IN WATER-PROOF BLACKINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [57,fi35, dated December 15, 1874; applicatior filed November 5, 1874.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that we, H'IRAM D. JEWETT and ISRAEL D. JEWETT, of St. Oiner, in the county of Decatur, in the State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Composition for Polishing Boots, Shoes, and leather of every description, making the leather Wapound and use our invention, we herewith furnish the several ingredients employed, manner of compounding, and mode of application.
To compound this fluid or mixture, take gum-mastic, five grains; gum-shellac, one ounce; resin, one-fourth of an ounce; gumcainphor, one-half ounce, and color with lampblaok, or other suitable coloring matter. The quantities named are about the proportions employed. Dissolve the gums in a suitable quantity of alcohol over a slow fire. When the gums are properly incorporated add the coloring matter, agitate well, then bottle for use.
The blacking may be applied to the leather in the usual manner by a sponge or brush.
WVe claim as our invention- The self-polishing water-proofblackingcomposed of gum-mastic, gum-shellac, resin, gumcapiphor, and lamp-black, or other suitable coloring matter, compounded with alcohol, in the manner and in about the quantities specified, for the purpose named.
