Description

PATENT QFFICE CLARK ALVORD, OF BINGHAMTON, NEWV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLACKINGS FOR BOOTS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,741, daled March 16, 1875; application filed January 25, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARK ALVOR-D, of the city of Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blacking for Boots, Shoes, Harness, and other Manufactures of Leather, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in compounding paraffine, bees-wax, and bone-black or lam p-black, or other suitable pigments. as follows, to Wit: To one pound of hard parafine add one-fourth pound of bees-wax; melt and stir them together, to which add one-fourth pound of bonehlack or lamp-black, or enough to form a paste when thoroughly mixed by stirring and grinding with the liquid compound of paraffine and Wax. WVhen well mixed, let the compound cool, in the meantime forming it into rolls or balls of convenient size for use.
It is applied to use as follows: If the leather is cold, slightly Warm it; then rub the roll or ball over the same until slightly smeared; then polish by friction, using a brush or other suitable implement.
The proportions of materials above mentioned may be Varied Without producing injury. Therefore I do not intend to confine myself to the exact proportions above mentioned.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The composition for blackiug herein described, compounded of the materials substantially as above set forth.
