This invention pertains to door operating mechanism and more particularly to a mechanism for .simultaneously operating double doors of safes and the like.
Hereto'fore, safes `and the like havebeen provided with double doors oi substantially the same sizeV adapted to engage one another tightly when in a closed position. Both doors in this construction are independently operable, that is to say, either door might be opened and closed without movement of the other door, but for some purposes, such as for altar saies, where it is desired to retain aesthetic features, and for other purposes where the mechanical features alone are most important, it isl desirableV to have both doors open sirnnltaneously.
It is therefore a primary object of my invention to provide a simple and inexpensive, but efcient and reliable mechanism vfor simultaneously opening both doors of a safe or other structure.
Another object is to provide a mechanism for simultaneously opening double doors oi safes of such nature and so constructed that the sa'fe doors may be readily opened by pulling upon the key, knob, or other projection provided., and wherein only one such means providing a hand hold may serve to open both doors.

Fig. 2 shows the mechanism'as it is preierably arranged when the doors are in closed position as indicated in dotted lines, while Fig. 3 shows the mechanism as it would appear when the doors are open. It is believed that the operation of the mechanism will be readily apparent 'from the foregoing.
I claim: i
1. In, combination, a pair of satte doors cooperatively engageable at one vertical edge `when in closed position, upper and centers of the door hinges when the doors are in` one ot their t-wo extreme positions and said shoulders, pins and bar being constructed and arranged so that opening and closing movements of one door will correspondingly open and close the other door and so that opening movements oit the doors beyond a predetermined position will be lin ited Vby engagement ot one et' said shoulders with the adjacent end ofthe bar.
2. ln combination, a pair of parallel spaced door frame members, a pair oi' sate doors cooperativeljT engageable at one vertical edge when in closed position, upper and lower hinges adjacent the opposite vertical edge ot each door and pivoted in said trame members, a cam member secured to each lower hinge between the lower edge ot' its door and the adjacent trame member, a shoulder on each cam member projecting generally in the direction o't the anis ot the adjacent hinge and on both sides ot' said hinge along a diameter thereof, a pivot pin on each cam member adjacent the shoulder thereon and a rigid bar pivoted to said pivot pins at its ends, said pins being so located on said members as to lie on substantiallj7 opposite sides of the line ot centers ot the door hinges when the doo-rs are in one of their two extreme positions and said cam meinbers, pivot pins and bar being constructed and arranged so that opening movements of the doors beyond ,a predetermined position will be limited byvengagement of one of said shoulders with the adjacent end of the bar.
3. In combina-tion, a-Ipair of sate doors each pivotally hinged at one vertical edge and cooperative at its other vertical edge with the corresponding` vertical edge ot the other door when said doors are in closed position,` a hinge member secured to each door and project-ing from corresponding horizontal edges of the doors in substantial alignment and substantially coincident with the pivotal axes o't the doors, a collar adjustably secured on each member for swinging movements therewith, a pivot pin on each collar eccentric of the axis of the member to which the collar is attached, a shoulder' on each collar adjacent the pin thereon and on a projection of a diameter ot the hinged member, and a rigid bar pivotally connected to said pins at its ends, said, pins being so located on said members as to lie on substantially opposite sides ot the line ot centers of the door hinges when the doors are in one ol their two extreme posit-ions and said pins being so relativelj7 positioned with respect to one another and to the axes of' said members that opening or closing increments ot one door will open or close the other door simultaneously and said shoulders each adapted to en gage one side ot' an end ot the bar to limit the extent of opening movement ot the doors.
