WALTER S. JENKENS, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOB, 'I O COLGATE & COMPANY, GF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION 935 NEW JERSEY.
DISPLAY STAND FOR SOAP BOXES.
Application filed August 4, 1925. Serial No. 48,025.
To all when: it may concern:
lie it known that I, amina S. JENKINS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Stai'ids for Soap Boxes, of which the following is a specification. 1 i
The object of the present invention is to provider. display stand for boxes of soap or other boxed goods which is readily. collapsible, which is adapted. to rigidly hold a bot: in forwardly inclined position so as to est display its contents and which is adapted to hold rei'novable display cards in such manner that the cards aid in maintaining the rigidity of the stand.
The invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device showing a box in position thereon;
Figure 2 is a front perspective View of the elements illustrated in Figure 1, display cards being shown in position, two of the latter being broken away;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the devlce, and
Figure l is a fragmentary detail view of two of the interlocking cross bar members.
Referring to the drawings it will be noted that my improved stand comprises two units, one unit being formed of two vertical members, 1, 1*, an upper cross member 2, and a lower cross member 3. The second unit comprises two vertical members a, an upper cross member 5 and a lower cross member 6.
Cross member 5 at its centre is formed with a recess 5* in register with a recess 2 formed in cross member 2, so that the two cross bars may interlock. Cross bars 3 and 6 are likewise formed with recesses for the interlocking of the said two members.
It will be noted that the vertical members 1*, 4* are of greater height than the vertical members 1, i and that all four of the vertical members at their top faces are bevelled at a. The bevelled faces a enable conformation of the front vertical members 1, a with the front face of the box to be supported, and conformation of the vertical members 1*, 4* with the bottom wall of the box held in forwardly inclined position, as illustrated vided with vertical opposed channels a to receive panels or flat sheets A of metal or cardboard on which may appear suitable advertising matter, as for example advertising of the product being held by the stand in display position. It is apparent that the sheets A will aid in maintaining rigidity of the stand by resisting any movement of the members 1, 4 toward each other. If desired, means may be provided for locking the sheets A in place so as to resist any movement of the members 1, 4 toward each other. However, in actual use of the device this is not necessary because the weight and wedging action of the box B itself will maintain the stand in its proper display position, whilst enabling ready collapse of the stand whenever desired.
When it is desired to collapse the stand, itis necessary merely to raise the vertical members l, 4* with their connected cross bars 5, 6 so that the said cross bars are carried above the orosslbars 2, 3. The units are then separated and may be swung together for convenient handling or packing for transportation.
It will be noted that the recesses 2*, 5 are not cut at right angles to the cross bars, but at an acute angle which enables a greater depth from front to rear of the device to correspond with the usual shape of boxes for soap and other packed goods. However, the recesses may be cut at right angles or any specific angle, relatively to the cross bars, in accordance with the particular requirements to be met.
It will further be noted that when the two units are assembled they are so interlocked as to resist relative movement of the units in all directions except movement vertically of that unit which employs cross members 5, 6. Such vertical movement is prevented by gravity and also the weight of the box B and its contents. Inasmuch as the device ordinarily will be made of Wood, repeated use and assembly would tend to make the interlocking connection between the units somewhat loose, but the display members A will resist relative movement of the units in a horizontal plane, which movements tend to increase the size of the recesses 2 5 by depression of the wood at :the lateral walls thereof due to the movement of one cross member upon the other laterally. This as ersb h m m s A will. p
larly eilective when they are employed not only at the front of the device, but at one or both sidesthereof. By supporting the box in forwardly inclined position the articles therein are advantageously exposed to view, which supplements the advertising value of the matter printed upon the panels A. It a different article is displayed the panel A may readily be moved upwardly and out of the channels a to be replaced by appropriate sheets.
Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
1. A display stand comprising two units, each unit embodying two vertical bars, one bar of each unit being longer than the second bar, and upper and lower cross mem hers, the cross members of one unit being disposed above adjacent cross members of the second unit, and the said adjacent cross membe 5 being adapted to interlock so as to rigidly connect the units, and the units being disconnected by moving one longitudinally relatively to the other whereupon one unit may be swung on its longitudinal axis to lie with its vertical bars in contact with the like bars of the second unit.
:4. A display stand adapted to support a soap box or the like, comprising two units, each embodying two vertical bars and upper and lower cross members, a cross member of one unit being adapted to interlock with a corresponding cross member of the second unit, so that the units may be'rigidly connected or separated at will, a vertical bar of one unit being formed with a longitudinal channel, and a vertical bar of the second unit being formed with a like channel, and a sheet or panel removably fitted within said channel.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
