UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT J. HARRISON, OF RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO JAMES Q. WILLIAMS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILER COVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,75 1, dated December 15,1874; application filed January 24, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RO ERT J. HARRISON, of Raleigh, in the county of Wake and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Wash-Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal section of my washboiler. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.
This invention has relation to wash-boilers; and the novelty consists in the construction of a cover for such boilers, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the annexed drawings, A represents the body of a boiler. E indicates a conical cover of the boiler, through the top of which is an opening, provided with a valve, 9 guided by a loop, 9 and a cross-bar, h. The valve 9 opens upwardly, and is entirely surrounded by a receptacle, g, which is attached directly to the cover E, as shown in the drawings. This valve allows the escape of surplus steam from the boiler, and the surrounding receptacle g prevents water and condensed steam, which gets into it, from flowing over the boiler. The cover can be confined in its place on the boiler by means of a lug and a hooked spring-catch, or any other suitable fastenings.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A wash-boiler cover having the receptacle 9 attached thereto, and entirely surrounding the valve 9 thereby forming an intermediate space between said receptacle and valve, for the purpose mentioned.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT J. HARRISON.
