J. RUNDLE' FOLDING BRACKET Filed April 21, 1925 Patented Mar. 9, 1926.
JOHN BUNDLE, OF LETI-IBRIDGE, ALBERTA. CANADA.
FOLDING BRACKET.
Application filed April 21, 1923.
T all w lac-m it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BUNDLE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of the city of Lethbridge, in. the Provinceof Alberta, in the Dominion of Canada,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in folding brackets, and the objects of the invention are to provide a simply constructed and efiicient bracket of this character, that can be readily folded flat or to the right or left as desired.
Further objects are to provide a bracket of this character that can be economically constructed and placed on the market in quantities at a reasonable price.
Still further objects are to provide a bracket particularly adaptable for use to support drop leaf table tops, and the like where when the bracket was not in use, space would be saved, and where in use extra and reliable means of support would be afforded.
iVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists essentially in the novel arrangement and construction of parts described in the present specification and illustrated by the accompanying drawings to form part of the same.
Referring now to the drawings, in which like characters of reference indicate corre .sponding parts in each figure,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the bracket open.
Y Figure 2 is a front elevation of the bracket folded.
Figure 3 is a sectional view.
Figure i is a detail of the supporting plate.
Figure 5 is a side elevation of a modified form.
In the drawings, A is the device as a whole comprising a suitable form of supporting plate 10 adapted to be fixedly secured to a wall or otherwise in any well known manner, extending through apertures therein 11.
This plate 10 is provided at the top with a flat extension 12 having an opening therein 13 and substantially adjacent this is provided with a socket retaining member 14., a
Serial No. 633,684.
similar socket member 15 being provided lower down on the plate 10.
16 is a bracket arm pivotally mounted on the plate top 12 by means of a bolt or otherwise 17, extending therethrough and into the socket 14..
18 is the brace for the bracket adapted at one end to fit into the socket member 15 on the plate 10 and substantially bent to lit at the other end into a socket member 19 on the arm 16. It will thus be seen that the arm 16 is swingingly mounted and can be swung as shown in Figure 1 to an open position or as shown in Figure 2 to a closed position readily and satisfactorily.
20 is a thumb screw adjacent the end of the arm 16 whereby the bracket can be ad justably secured in position. This screw is adapted to engage with a shelf Or the like detachably placed on the bracket to hold same stationary. On the othcr hand if the shelf or the like is intended to be permanently attached to the bracket ordinary screws may be used.
T 0 make the bracket stationary, it is only necessary to substitute for this thumb screw, ordinary screws as shown in'Figure 3 at 21 and 22.
As many changes could be made in the" above construction, and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claims, without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanyingspecification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.-
lVhat I claim as my invention is:
1. In a device of the character described, a vehicle supporting plate formed with an extension, substantially at right-angles thereto, having an opening therein, spaced socket members on said plate, a horizontally arranged arm piyotally mounted on the plate, a socket on said arm and abrace ada pted to engage with said socket and with one of the plate carried sockets and a detachable pin through the plate extension and the l1orizontal arm adapted to pivotally engage with the other socket on the supporting plate.
.2. A. fol-(table bracket comprising a fiat,
vertically arranged supporting plate adapted at the top to detachably engage with the suitably formed end of a horizontally extending arm, spaced socket members on the plate and. pin means adapted to pivotally engage wlth one of said socket members for pivotally connectlng sald arm wlth the plate,
and to pivotally engage with one of the sup- 1 porting plate sockets.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto-set my hand.
- JOHN BUNDLE.
