Application mea August 27, 192s. sei-iai No. 659,514.
To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that CHARLES SQBALLARD, a
citizen of the United Sftate's, residing ati Buckley, in the county of `Piercea'nd Stateof lVash-ington, has invented certain new and useful Iinproven'ients in Dentists7 Chip Blowers and Air Syringes, of which the fol-l lowing is a specification.
This vinvention relates to a dentists'chip` blower and air syringe and has for its princi-y pal object to provide a suitable means in the Y said syringe for preventing air and saliva yao from entering the bulb of the syringe whenA in use.
Another important object of the inven-f tion is to provide an elastic bulb syringe of i the above mentioned character, which is provided witli automatic means for allowing air A still further object of the invention is to provide an elastic bulb syringe of the above mentioned character, which is of such aY construction as to render the saine at all times positive in its operation and further-.I more assure cleanliness -and which does not necessitate the adjusting of any parts thereof in order to accomplish the necessary results.
A still further object of .theL invention .to provide anl elastic bulb syringe of the a part of this specification and in which like j numerals designate like parts throughout the same v Figure lis a central longitudinal section of the invention.
Figure 2 is a central vertical section of the check valve and adjacent parts.
valve. Y
Figure 4 is a detail View of a type of nozzle especially adapted to be used as an air blower. l f
In the drawings wherein for the purpose ofl illustration is shown thepreferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the bulb, made of vulcanized india Figure 3 is a top plan view of the checkv rubber and is preferably of the same construction as the bulbs as now in use upon various types of syringes.. Thebottom vof the bulb'l is provided with an opening 2 and adjacent the opening2 .and carried upon the innerside of' thebottomof the bulb is a flap valve 3. This'iiap valve 3 is adapted to cover over the apertureg2 formed ingthe bottom of the bulb l and this aperture 2 is for the purpose ofproviding an inlet for the bulb. i I
. The bulb l is furthermore provided at its opposite end andin the neck portion thereof with the outlet 4 and adapted to be received and held therein is` a sleeve 5. The outer end ofthe sleeve is 4 adapted tolie flush with the outer face of the outlet .4' of the bulb l and the outlet end of the'bulb is furthermore provided witlia flange 6 for detachably held thereon. vThe nipple 7- is provided with a suitable valve chamber 8i and this valve chamber 8 is of such -aconstruction as to be in communication with llihiksleeve L5 carried by the outlet end 4 of the u l.y
The vfree end of the nipple .-inaysupport a section of tubing 9 and various vforms of tubing 9 may be inserted in the nipple 7 as desired.
Adapted to move in the valve chamber 8 formed in the nipple 7 is a check valve 10 and this check valve 10 is preferably formed of sheet nictal and so constructed as to be provided'witli a conical portion l1 and having its opposite bottom edges provided with notches or cut out portions l2. This con;v
struction is more clearly shown in Figs. 2` and of the drawings. The check valve l0 normally has its conical portion 1l seating against the outer end of the sleeve 5 and prevents any air from coming or entering from j the tube 9 into the biilb l.
In use after the bulb lis depressed the suction created thereby will cause the flap valve 3 in the bottom of the bulb to move away from the inlet opening 2 and allow air 75 the .purpose of permitting a" nippley 7 to be the conicalffaces of the check` valve-.d10 in the valve chamber 8 and through the notchesn 12 formed therein and then out through the tube 9.
When the bulb 1 is released the `check valve l will at once be caused to have its conical portion 1l `sea-t against the sleeve 5 and thereby prevent any air or saliva from l entering the bulb l through the sleeve 5.
At the same time the iiap valve 3 carried by the bottom of thezbulb will permit any air to enter inthebulb l'tlnough the aperture 2 formed vin thebottom of the bulb. It will thus bessen from the foregoing description that an elastic bulb syringe has been provided wherein automatic means have been provided for the purpose of al- Vlowing afresh supplyof airl to be passed through the bulb `for use and also preventing the bulb from Vreceiving and holding any ed so that the same can be obtained at a minimumcost.
From the' foregoing? description of the construction of my improved apparatus,` it will beseen that I have provided la simple,
"inexpensive and eiiicient meansfor carrying outthe objects of the invention and while I have particularly described the elements` best adapted to perform the functions set forth, itis obvious that various changes in of the principles of the invention.v
WVhat I claim as new andl desire to secure by Letters Patent is Adevice` of the class described vcomprising a bulb having an inlet valve in the bottom thereon the opposite end being formed into a neck` portion, fincreased in thickness `form,`proportion andin ininor details of yconstruction may be resorted to, without de-` parting from the spirit or sacricing anyV and provided at its outeriedge with a peripheral outstanding flange, a rigid sleeve mount-` ed inthe neck of said bulb having itsfouter end terminating flush with the outer end of said neck, a rigidnipple of substantially` conical design applied tothe end of said neck and held frictionally in engagement therewith by peripheral edge of said nipple, said `nipple having a restricted bore terminating at its inner end in an enlarged cavity adapted to the annular flange of said neck` engaging the i communicate with the bore of the. aforesaid ly disposed in said cavity'and adapted torbe seatedonvthefouter end of` said sleevethe outer peripheraled'ge of said valve member being formed withnotches to afford passagesleeve, a hollow conical Vvalve member loosej ways-when the valve is disposedagainjst the one wall of said cavity,` `and-a tube mounted in the b ore of, saidnipple and"extending .therethrough7 as and'for the Vpurposes de-` scribed. 1- Y In testimony Vwhereof I affix my signature..` i i i i t c i cHARLES.
