J. W. KAYE TIE BUCKLE Filed Abril 2, 1925 Patented Mar. 9, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT JOHN WM. KAYE, OF LULING, TEXAS.
TIE BUCKLE.
Application filed April 2,
To c-sZZ whom it may concern: Be it known that I, JOHN IV. KAYE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Luling, in the county of Caldwell and State of 5 Texas, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Tie Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, v such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a buckle for use in connection with ties and particularly the steel ties as used on cotton bales and the like.
It is aimed to provide a novel and simplified construction wherein the buckle is of greater strength than heretofore, more compact and lighter in weight.
Additional objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in. connection with accompanying drawings illustratin an operative embodiment. I
In said drawings Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the buckle connecting the ends of a tie, and
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the buckle alone.
Referring specifically to the drawings, the buckle is preferably made from a single blank of suitable metal as" at 10 and has slots 11 and 12 of elongated form provided therein connected by a relatively narrow slot 13. Said slots 12 and 13 have lugs 14 between them and one on each side of the passage or slot 13. Said lugs are relatively wide and to this end, the slot 11 is relatively narrow, thus giving maximum width to the lugs 14 for the purpose of strength. One end of the slot 12 as at 15 is preferably tapered as shown. The buckle is preferably continuous marginally.
The buckle is used in connection with a tie as at 16, such as a metal tie as used on cotton bales. The

ends of such tie are sage 13 enabling the tying of the tie with re spect to the buckle to be carried out in the well known 'manner.
' By the provision of the present buckle, it
is considerably less lug constructions so in weight than existas to reduce the cost of transportation of bales or the like in connection with which it is used, when it is borne in mind that a number of these buckles are used with each bale. Also the buckle is considerably stronger than exist ng constructions which enables a less number of them to be used in connection w1th a bale.
Furthermore,
facture than existing constructions and as it is cheaper to manuwell is easier to nandle and much quicker to effect buckling of the tie.
It is to beundersto'od that the invention may be used in other relations than in connection with ties for cotton bales exclusively.
Various changes may beresorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
What is claimed is A buckle of the class described comprising a single blank of metal continuous at its edge, said blank beingflat and having parallel elongated s1 ots th same length and a relatively narrow slot connecting them, said slots-providing parallel lugs, one of sald longitudinal slots being rectangular and relatively narrow to afford maximum width for the lugs, and the wider longitudinal slot having one end tapered from both side walls thereof, and said wider longitudinal slot being otherwise rectangular.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
JOHN wM. KAYE.
