TABLE-TOP ATTACHMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

' Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. WALA- semen, a citizen of the'United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Table-Top Attachment, of which the following is a specification.

' This invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments for table tops and has for its principal object to provide a means whereby a round table top may be readily and easily converted into a substantially rectangular shaped table top.

A. further object of the invention is to provide a table top attachment of the above mentioned character, which will enable the sides of the table top to -be increased,the auxiliary table top being of such a construc tion as to enable the same to be readily and easily secured in position on the table top whenever it is desired to use the same.

A further object of the invention is to provide a table top attachment of the above mentioned character which will be simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing formin a .part of this specification and in which hke numerals designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is. a top plan view of a table top with my attachment in position thereon.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 33 of Figure 1.

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the top of a table and the same is substantially round in the manner clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and 2. The periphcry of the table top 1 is further provided with a beveled flange 6 in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 3.

For the pur ose of increasing the size of the table and y changing the shape of the table top, the same will be converted into a substantially rectangular shaped table top. The attachment whereby the above is accomplished comprises a substantially rectangular shaped fran'le designated generally by the numeral 7 and the same includes the coi'nplemcutary sections 8 and 9 respectively which are hingedly connected together at their adjacent ends in the manner clearly illustrated at 10 with reference to Figure 2 of the drawing. The sections 8 and 9 are formed in superposed laminations as is clearly shown in Fi re 3.

The adjacent ends of the top laminations of the complementary sections 8 and 9 are each provided with a substantially semicircular cut out portions 11 and 12 respective] y which are adapted to cooperate so that the opening formed in the frame will con form to the contour of the table top 1. The bottom laminations of the complementary sections at the portions where the semlcircular cut out portions are provided are cut away as illustrated at 13 and 14 respectively in the drawing. The feature 'ust ascribed allow the sections 8 and 9 to 9 con structed in a very economical manner and to be of a very light nature in weight. The

13 and 14 eliminate the necessity of matching up arcuate bevel ed es to conform with those shown at 11 an 12. The edges of the semi-circular openings 11 and 12 are beveled on the under side for cooperation with the beveled peripheral edge 6 of the table top 1 in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawing, This construction will enable the auxiliary frame'to have its upper surface substantial- 1y flush with the upper surface of the round table top 1.

13 and 14 thereof the ordinary oor buttons 15. The same are so arranged as to cooperate with the bottom of the table top 1 at the edge thereof at spaced intervals. The table top 1 will lie substantially flush with the under side of the complementary sections so that the buttons 15 may engage the same and support the auxiliary frame in a substantially rigid position on the table top 1 against accidental disengagement therefrom and further preventing the collapsing of the complementary sections comprising the frame.

For holding the auxiliary table top in a folded positlon when not in use upon the ordinary table top, I provide the cooperating hooks and eyes 16 and 17 respectively on the opposite side edges of the complementar sections. This rmits the attachment to stored away without occupying much ace.

The provision of a table top attachment of the abovementioned character, willenable a person 'to readily and easily increase the size of an ordinary round table and change the shape thereof to a substantially rectangular shaped table top without alter ing the construction of the table in any manner.
