Be it known that A VIN Snrnnn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chippewa Falls, in the county of Chippewa and State of Wisconsin, has invented certain useful Improvements in Clothes-Draining Attachments for Washboilers, of which the following is a speci- .tication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

The object of the invention is to provide a device which may be readily mounted on the conventional wash boiler, so that the clothes may, after having been subjected to the proper boiling operation, be elevated clearof the water in the boiler and the water contained in them drained back into the boiler to obviate the necessity of having to supply the boiler withadditioinal water at the expense of additional heat to again ob-- tain the desired temperature.

Further, it is a purpose to provide a clamping means or element for attachment to the side of the boiler to constitute a standard for the support of a fulcrum by which the clothes may be raised and, after draining, positioned over a rinsing receptacle for deposit therein, thus obviating the necessity of the clothes havin to be handled manually in their removal mm the boiler to the rinsing receptacle.

\Vith these objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings without defining the limits of the invention.

The basket 1 which is of coarse open wire mesh is constructed to conform in shape to the boiler 2 to nest snugly in the latter, the basket being open at the top and the upper edge being bounded by a coarse wire 3 to which the mesh is secured, the lower edge of the basket being similarly bounded by a Wire 4. Thebottom of the basket is hingedly connected to the same, as indicated at 5, and is of wire mesh construction of which the perimeter is represented by a coarse wire 6, the bottom being provided with a plate'7 at an intermediate point in its length and at one side edge to preclude interference of the wire mesh with the. lateral arm 8 of a latching device consisting of intermediate-- ly disposed vertical rod 9 having an angularly turned handle or actuating member 10 at the upper edge of the basket, the latter aligning with the wire binding at the top when the arm 8 is engaged underneath the bottom plate 7. By this construction, the

bottom is maintained latched in position and when-it is desired to remove the contents, the lnovei'nent of the operating arm or handle to a position at right angles to the length of the basket will serve to release the arm 8 from engagement with the cover and the plate 7 and permit the latter to drop, thus depositing the contents in the receptacle over which the basket may then be placed. The latching member consisting of the rod 9 is mounted for ready turning movement, the side wires 3 and 4 where they span the rod being offset or deflected to provide eyes in Which the rod may readily turn.

To permit the ready raisingof the basket from the boiler, the yokes 11 are provided having terminal hooks 12 engaging with upwardly directed offsets 14 in the binding wire 3. At intermediate points, the yokes are formed with loops constituting eyes 15 engaging the hooks 16 of a transverse lifting bar 17 which, at an intermediate point, is provided with a clasp 1.8 of which the swivel 19 may be engaged with the hooked extremity 20 of a lifting lever 21. The lifting lever is pivotally mounted at substantially intermediate points at the upper end of a standard 22 which is preferably a rod which, at its lower end, engages in a seat in an car 23 laterally projecting from the lower extremity of a boiler clamp 24, the latter being made preferably of a flat bar bent back on itself to provide a tongue 25 depending within the boiler 2 and abutting the side of the latter. The clamp 01' supporting member at the top where it engages over the edge of the boiler is offset as indicated at 26, and is drilled and tapped for the reception of an eye bolt 27, the eye of which receives the standard 22 and supports the latter at an intermediate point in its length. The seat in the ear 23 and the eye 27 constitute a pivotal support for the standard and the latter may be readily turned, together with the lifting bar or lever 21, so that when the basket is elevated above the top of the boiler, the whole may be swung around to position the basket over a rinsing receptacle for the deposit of its contents, after the release of the bottom, into the rinsing receptacle.

Since it is preferable to drain the clothes prior todepositing them in the receptacle, provision is made for supporting the basket above the boiler for a time priorto swinging the latter to a position over the receptacle and such provision constitutes the em ployment of a link 28 which, at one end is pivotally connected to the lifting lever at an intermediate point and at the opposite end .is provided with a hook 29 for engage ment with a pin 30 on the standard. By this means, the basket may be held in its elevated position above the boiler until the clothes are fully drained, after which lateral pressure on the free or handle ortion of the lifting lever will serve to swing the basket with opposite loops, a standard with basket to the desired position over the rinsing receptacle.

' The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:

A device for the purpose set forth comprising a clothes receiving and discharging a lifting lever fulcrumed at the upper extremity of the standard with a transversely disposed bar loosely suspended from one end of the lever with its ends loosely and detachably connecting with the opposite loops, at supporting means for the standard consisting of a bracket havinga U-portion detachably engaged with the side of a wash boiler, a device passing through the U-portion and bearing upon the wash boiler side to hold the support in position. and a latching means to secure the lifting lever to the standard when the basket is in elevated position, said device having an eye for the rev oluble reception of the standard, whereby the standard may be rotated to swing the basket over a rinsing receptacle into which the clothes may discharge.
