INVENTOR jvoriz'zn e1 Dora ATTORNEY Patented F eb- 23, 1926.
MORTIMER DURAN, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
COMBINATION SHADE BRACKET.
Application filed October 16, 1924. Serial No. 744,049.
To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, MORTIMER DURAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Waterbury, county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Shade Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to window fixtures and more particularly to combination brackets for supporting window shades and curtains.
One object of this invention is to provide a pair of brackets of the above nature which may be readily attached to the top of the window casing without the use of screws,
nails, or other means which would injure the wood-work.
, A further ob ect is to provide a bracket of the above nature which will be adjustable to receive various lengths of window shades and curtains.
A further object is to provide a device of this nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to .manufacture, easy to install and manipulate, compact, attractive in appearance, and very efficient and durable in use.
iVith these and other objects in view, there has been illustrated in the accompany- .ing drawings, one form in which the invention may be conveniently embodied in practice.
Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of the bracket which is adapted to be attached to the upper left-hand corner of the window frame.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bracket adapted to be attached to the upper righthand corner of the window frame.
Fig. 3 is a top view, partly in section, and partly broken away, showing the appearance of the shade roller, curtain rod, and lefthand bracket when assembled and attached to the window frame.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along the line 41-41 of Fig. 3, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 5 is a front view of the left-hand bracket with the sliding holders for the shade roller and curtain rod removed for greater clearness.
Referring now to the drawings in which like reference numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral indicates a bracket adapted to be attached to the inside upper left-hand corner of a window frame 10, and the numeral 11 indicates a similar bracket adapted to be attached to the upper right-hand corner of said frame. The brackets 10 and 11 are rectangular in general outline and each comprises a vertical central portion, having a pair of horizontal top and bottom members 12 and 13 connected together by a pair of intermediate vertical legs 14: and 15. It will thus be seen that the bracket has a central rectangular recess and a pair of rectangular side slots, as shown.
The upper member 12 of each bracket is bent backwardly and downwardly to form a flange 16, said flange being adapted to cooperate with a series of lugs 17, 18, and 19 bent upwardly from the bottom of the upper member 12. The flange 16 and the lugs 17, 18, and 19 in the brackets 10 and 11 form guide-ways for sliding curtain rod holders 20 and 20 respectively. Each of the sliding holders 20 and 20 consists of a flat strip of metal having its outer end bent forwardly at 21 and 21 and laterally at 22 and 22 respectively. In each of the brackets, the lateral portions 22 and 22 have slots 23 and 23 respectively to receive legs 24: of a U-shaped curtain rod 25.
Each bracket 10 and 11 is also provided with a series of lugs 26, 27, and 28 extending downwardly from .the upper members 12 thereof, behind the side slots and recess previously mentioned. The lugs 26, 27, and 28 are offset rcarwardly from the front face of said brackets as clearly shown in Figs. 4 and 5, and are adapted to cooperate with flanges 29, 30, and 31 which extend upwardly from the bottom members 13, and are oil'- set rearwardly, whereby guideways are formed to slidably support shade roller holding members 32 and32. The members 32 and 32 comprise elongated strips having at their outer ends forwardly bent end sec tions 33 and 33 respectively. The section 33 of the left-hand bracket has a vertical slot 34 to receive the squared end of the shade roller 3%, while the section 33 of the right hand b 'acket has a circular aperture 31 to receive the round pin at the other end of said shade roller.
In order to support the brackets upon the window frame without the use of screws, nails, or other fastening means, which would be injurious to the wood-work, the bottom members 13 are provided with rearwardly 20 32, and 32 in any desired adjusted positions, a series of indentations 39, 40, 41, and 42 are formed in the central portions of the brackets 10 and 11, and said indentations are adapted to press inwardly upon said members into frictional engagement therewith.
One advantage of the present invention is that each of the combination brackets may be manufactured in a very inexpensive manner merely by stamping and bending from a singlepiece of sheet metal.
While there has been disclosed in this specification one form in which the invention may-be embodied, it is to be understoodthat this form is shown for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosures but may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus fully described the inven tion, what is claimed as new, and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent, is :7
1. In a combination window shade and curtain holding fixture, abracket adapted to be attached at the side of the top of a window frame, said bracket having a pair of contiguous guide-ways struck up from the metal thereof to support sliding holders for one end of a window shade roller and separate means for supporting one end of a curtain rod, said bracket also having an angular flange comprising vertical and horizontal arms adapted to be held in position in the corner of the window frame by the molding strips.
2. In a combination window shade and curtain holding fixture, a bracket adapted to be attached to the side of a window frame, said bracket having a pair of horizontal contiguous guide-ways struck up from the metal thereof for supporting holders for one end of a window shade roller and one end of a curtain rod, said bracket also having a horizontal bottom flange adapted to be held in position between the window frame and the molding strip, said flange having its outer end bent downwardly to be engaged between the outer end of the horizontal molding strip and the side molding strip.
3. In a combination window shadeand curtain holding fixture, a bracket adapted to be attached to the side of a window frame, said bracket having a pair of guiding members struck up from the metal thereof, said bracket having a pair of adjustable members slidable in said guiding members for supporting the ends of a window shade roller and of a curtain rod respectively, and said bracket having an angular flange adapted to fit in the corner of the window frame between the molding strip and'the window frame, said guiding members having portions alternately bent in opposite directions at the centre of said bracket.
In testimony whereof, I haveaffixed my signature to this specification.
MORTIMER .DORAN.
