POCKET LICENSE comm-rims on HoLnER.
Application 'filed March 10, 1925. Serial No. 14,518.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM WARRE a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newport, in the county of Newport and State of Rhode Island, have made certain new and useful Improvementsv in Pocket License Containers or Holders, of which the following is a specification; I
My present invention relates generally to a pocket container or holder for drivers licenses, certificates and the like which should be carried upon the person at all times, and my invention has to do more particularly with a holder capable of attachment to a key-ring or keycontainer as well as to a watch chain and the like, so that the owner will be certain to havehis driving license or certificate at hand at all times.
A further object is the provision of a holder of the above type by which to avoid all danger of loss of the certificate or license therefrom as long as the holder itself remains in connection with the key-ring container or watch chain to which the holder may be attached. I
In the accompanying drawingwhich. illustrates my present invention and forms a part of this specification Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the complete device, 7
Figure 2 is a Vertical longitudinal section taken therethrough, and, V
Figure 3 is a perspective View illustrating the parts in detached relation.
Referring now to these figures, my invention proposes a holder which comprises in the first instance a cylindrical casing 10 open at both ends and having at one end an inturned flange 11 for a purpose'which will be presently described.
Adapted for disposal within the casing 10 is a spindle or stem 12 of substantially reduced diameter with respect to the in; ternal diameter of the casing, so that ample space is left within the casing around the spindle or stem for the disposition of a drivers license, certificate and the like 13, as seen in Figures 2 and 3. At its opposite ends the stem 12 has annularlyenlarged heads 14: and 15, the former of which upon insertion of the spindle or stem within the casing, abuts the inturned fiange'll to close the respective end of the casing, and at the same time prevent further movement of the stem or spindle in the direction in which it Y Y r is inserted. At the same time the head 15 .closes the opposite open end of the casing so that with the partsin this position it is obvious that all danger of loss of the license or certificate 13 from the holder or container is avoided so long as the spindle or stem remains in place.
At one end the spindle stem has a reducedyaxial extension 16 beyond the head 14, which extension 16 has a diametrical opening 17 and projects through the space circumscribed by the flange 11 when the spindle or stem is inplace Within the casing for the reception of a split spring ring 18 which, upon extension through its diametrical opening 17 thus forms a means to prevent withdrawal of the stem or spindle from the casing 10 in the only direction in which it can be withdrawnand which also forms means for convenient attachment of the'container or holder as a whole to a keyf ilpg, key-container, watch chain and the l e. o
It is thu's obvious that so long as the container or holder as a whole remains in connection with the key-ring, key container, watch chain-and the like to which it may be attached, the split spring ring 18 will retension 16 of the stem or spindle, and it follows that so long'as this ring does remain in engagement the stem or spindle cannot withdraw from the casing and the latter will continue to be closed against loss of the contents thereof.
My invention thus provides a simple inexpensive device 111 which the attaching ring and the like forms a two-fold function, and acts as a safety guard, as well as one which may. be made of small dimensions and not only attached to a key-ring and the like, but one which is obviously adapt able to exterior embellishment in order that it may serve the ordinary purpose of a charm or pendant in connection with the chain.
I claim A container or holder of the type described, including a cylindrical casing open at both ends and having an inturned flange I at one end, a spindle or stem movable into and out of the casing through the opposite adjacent end of the casing and provided With an opening, and a split spring ring through the said opening serving as an attaching means for the casing or container as a Whole, and also functioning to normally prevent removal of the spindle or stem through the first mentoned end of the casin WILLIAM WARREN.
