COMBINED WATCHCASE AND VANITY-BOX.
Application filed March 24, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR G. KASTOR, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Watchcases and Vanity-Boxes, of which the following is a specification, containing a full, clear, and exact'description,
,a portion of the vanity box broken away; I
.30 Fig. 4 is an edge elevation partly in section reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
- My invention relates to improvements in combined watch cases and vanity boxes, and the object of my invention is to provide a neat, compact case of hinged parts arranged to receive in one part a watch movement and in the other part a powder puff, the dividing element between the two cases being a mir ror.
With the above purposes in view my-invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an edge elevation of the device constructed according to my invention; Fig. 2 is a view showing the device open;
Fig. 3 is a'rear elevation of the device with showing the manner of hinging and securing the vanity box to the watch case, and,
Fig. 5 is a detail-section, showing the construction of the annular notch and hook, used in securing the vanity-box to the case. Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings: 5 designates the body portion ofthe watch case which is of the usual conopen-faced watch. .6 designates the ordinary tubular stem, and secured to the stem is i the ordinary bow 7.
Secured in the front face of the casing is the ordinary crystal 8, and hinged to the back of the case is a ring 9 which carries a mirror 10. The manner of securing the mirv,
ror to the ring is preferably the common manner of snapping the mirror in. place as is the ordinary crystal.
11 designates the body of my improved vanity box which is hinged to the watch Specification of Letters Patent.

case in a manner similar to the hinging of the front of an ordinary hunting case watch.
Formed in the inner margin of the vanity box 11 adjacent the hollow stem 6 is an annular notch 12 formed by crimping the margin in a common manner. The annular notch 12, just referred to, is shown by dotted line in Fig. 2.
Inserted through the hollow stem 6 is a plunger 13 which.is arranged for vertical movements through" the hollow stem and limited in its movements by a pin 14; riding in a reduced portion of the plunger. Secured to the plunger is an ordinary crown 15.
Secured within the body 5 of the watch case is a segmental leaf spring 16 having at its one end a lateral integral extension 17 terminating in a hook 18, which extension is arranged to be acted upon by the plunger and the hook 18 arranged to seat in the notch 12 of the vanity box in order to se cure the box to the case.
19 designates the powder puff which is preferably secured to a comparatively inflexible disk 20 forming a top for the powder puff. Secured to the disk is a ring 21 forming a handle for the manipulation of the puff.
It is to be observed as shown in Fig. 4, that the puff' secured to the disk 20 is or slightly greater diameter than the open mouth of the vanity box. I
' The device of my invention is worn orused in a manner common to ordinary watches, and when it is desired to make use of the vanity box the crown 15 is depressed in a manner similar to the opening of the front face of an ordinary hunting case Watch, which act releases the book 18 from the notch in the vanity box, so that the box may puff to his or her face by thev employmentv I of the mirror 10.
Iclaim: I I The combination with a common openfacedv watch-case having the usual watchmovement therein, a winding-stem, a crown;- I
am; a back which may be opened t0 afford access In testimony whereof, have signed as the sand Watch-movement; of a name to 1115 speclficatlon, 1n presence 50?: hingedlv subscribing J L g 5 by movement of t L g-stem, for Vfitnesses:
