IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,366, dated December 1, 1874 application filed August 6, 1874.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBIN W. BRIDGHAM, of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and in the State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churns 5 and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement upon the churn for which Letters Patent N o. 80,658 were granted to J. Oothoudt, August 4, 1868; and the nature of my invention consists in attaching the churn-bottom to its chair or plate by means of movable fastenings, so that the churn can be readily removed from the same when desired, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, l willnow proceed` to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the churn patented by Oothoudt, and embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view, from the .under side, of the present churn-bottom removed from the plate. Fig. 3 is a section of the churn-bottom secured on the plate, and Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the same.

A represents the bottom of the churn, which, in the patent above referred to, was permanently attached to a circular plate or chair, B, attached to the upper end of a hollow revolving shaft, whereby the churn obtained a revolving motion. It was therefore extremely difficult to remove the churn from said chair.

The object of my invention is to obviate this diiculty; and to this end I provide the chair B, in its periphery, with three or more slots, a, and fasten it to the under side of the bottom A by means of L-shaped screws b. By partially revolving these screws their heads will either catch upon or against the chair, and thus yhold it fast to the bottom, or will allow the bottom to be removed from thc chair, according to the distance they are turned or the position in which the heads of the screws stand.

It is, of course, understood that the body of the screws pass through the slots c in the chair.

By these means the churn can be quickly and easily detached from the chair B when desired.

Having thus fully described my invention,

what I claim Aas new, and desire to secure byv Letters Patent, is-

The combination of the churn-bottom A with the chair B, provided with slots or notches a, and the L-shaped screws b, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
