W L Y 0 N Toy-Pistols;

UNITED STATEs PATENT QFFIGE,
WARREN LYON, OF MAMARONEGK, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY PISTOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 57,336, dated December 1, 1874; application filed September 19, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARREN LYoN, of Mamaroneck, Westchester county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Toy Gun, of which the following is a specification:
In this improied toy gun, which is intended more particularly for shooting pease and like projectiles, a piston is arranged in the barrel, with a rod extending back, and connected at the rear end with a lever for pulling the piston back, the rod having a coiled spring on it to throw the piston forward, and the lever being arranged in a vertical slot in the breech,
above which it projects to be pulled back, while the lower end has a notch below the pivot, in which a spring-catch drops to hold the piston-spring, and to be used for tripping it by the trigger, the spring-catch having a projection beyond the notch, with which the trigger engages, so as to trip readily, and a stop is combined with the spring-catch and trigger, to prevent damage to the catch by pulling the trigger too hard.
The drawing is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved toy gun.
A is the barrel; B, the piston; G, the piston-rod; D, the spring for throwing the piston; E, the lever for pulling thepiston back F, the spring-catch; G, the trigger, and H the stop for the trigger. The spring D bears at one end against the partition I, and at the other end against the piston, to be contracted when the piston is pulled back for acquiring the force for ejecting the projectile when let free. The lever E is pivoted, at J, in the lower part of the vertical slot K in the breech, so as to rise above the top conveniently for being pulled back for setting it, while at the same time the lower end extends to the place for engaging the trigger below.
The arrangement is very simple, efficient, cheap, and durable.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. I11 a toy gun or pistol, the piston B, rod 0, spring D, lever E, spring-catch F, and the trigger G, combined and arranged substantially as specified.
2. The combination of the stop H, trigger (l, and spring-catch F, constructed and. arranged substantially as specified.
WARREN LYON.
