Application filed October 2, 1925. Serial No. 60,098
T 0 all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK VH. Fisorinn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Signs, of which the following isv a' specification.
This invention relates to advertising devices and has particular relation to advertising signs adapted to be placed adjacent a roadway or other conspicuous place.
An object of the present invention is to provide an advertising` sign having an artistic appearance so that it will readily attract attention and to further provide a sign which includes a removable display panel constructed and held in place so that it may be easily handled irrespectiver of the size of the sign and thus permit the display to be changed as often as desired and at a relatively small amount of trouble and expense.A
ithfthe above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in theaccompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention with the panel removed.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the panel partly inserted.
Figure 3 is a like vicw with the panel in place.
Figure l is an enlarged edge vie-w with the panel removed.
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective vi-ew of one end of the easel and showing the panel retaining means.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates spaced legs adapted to have their lower ends inserted in the ground or otherwise suitably anchored to form a part of an easel. The legs 10 are connected by spaced upper and lower horizontally7 disposed rails 11 whose opposed edges are rabbeted as shown at 12.
Secured to the rails 11 are the upper and lower members of a frame 13. This frame is preferably of ornamental conliguratioi'i and may be further ornamented or decorated as desired, the rear face of the upper an-d lower members of the frame cooperating with the rabbeted portions of the rails 1l to provide guide grooves la.. These grooves are designed to removably receive a panel and the latter is preferably formed of sections 15 as shown in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings. The sections are designed to be inserted within the opposite ends of the grooves 14 to provide a panel which entirely fills the frames 18.
In order to hold the panel in place and prevent accidental separation of the sections of the panel, one or both of the rails 11, but preferably the lower rail, is provided with an opening 16 near each end. These openings are adapted to removably receive hook-shaped members 17 having a beveled or inclined edge 18.l These beveled or inclined edges engage the end walls of the opening 16 so as to provide a wedging action when the members 17 are driven' into the openings. These members 17 are designed to abut the opposite ends of the panel and act to removably hold the latter in place and prevent accidental separation of the sections. By tapping the lower ends of the members 17, the latter may be readily removed so as to permit of the removal and replacement of the sections.
The legs 10 are preferably connected by a horizontally disposed strip 19 which acts to reinforce' the panel along its horizontal center, the thickness of the strip being equal to the thickness of the opposed edges of the rails 11.
Exten-ding rearwardly and downwardly from the upper ends of the legs 10 are ina clined braces 2O whose lower ends are con nected as indicated at 21 to the upper ends of anchor stakes 22, the latter being driven into the ground or otherwise suitably secured.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description and accompanying drawing that the invention provides an exceedingly attractive advertising display sign, the artistic character of which will readily attract attention. ln addition, its construction per# mits of frequent changes of panels so that the display matter may be changed as desired. As the panels may be manufactured at a given point and afterward distributed and placed in position, the expense incident to the change of advertising matter will be materially reduced.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details 0f Construction and. the right is herein reserrcd lo make such changes as properlv lfall nil'hin the scope olz the appended c l a i me.
Having' described the invention what is claimed is:--
l. A device of the character described comprising` au easel including` spaced snpportingr legs and spaced upper and lower parallel rails, a traine having .its lop and bottom members secured to said rails and spaced ilroin the and a display panel removably positioned between the and frame.
fr device of the character described comprising;` an easel including spaced supportino1 legs and spaced upper and lower parallel rails1 a traine having its top and bottoni members secured to said rails and spaced `from the legs and a display panel renlerably positioned between the legs and ilraiue and said lower rail haring; an openinlel therethrough adjacent each end and substantially book sl pcd wedge elements :lirictionalliv engaging the Walls of the openingI and abutting the panel to hold the latter in position.
Il. device ot the character described comprising;- an easel including spaced supporting lees and spaced upper and lower parallel nils, ay iframe having its top and bottoni uleinbers secured to said rails and spaced from the legs and a displayv panel removably7 positioned between the legs and :lrame and a Sectional display panel removably positioned between the legs and "frame Laurel and means at opposite ends o land engaging;r the panel to prevent separation ol the see tions.
A device oli the character described comprising' an easel includingI spaced Sup porting legs and spaced upper and lower parallel rails having1 opposed rabbeled edges, a ranie having' its top and bottoni members secured to the rails and cooperatin with the Walls of the rabbeted edges to provide opposed upper and lower guide grooves. a sectional panel removably positioned within the frame and having its upper and lower edges Within the grooves? a horizontally7 disposed reinforcing` strip connecting;l the legs oli the easel and engraning the panel and means engaging opposite edges of the panel to prevent separation oli' the sections and hold the panel in place.
l device of the character described comprising upper and loiver parallel rails` having' opposed rabbel'ed edges, al iframe havingl its top and bottoni members secured to the rails and cooperating' With the Walls ot the. rabbel'ed edges to provide opposed upper and lower guide grooves, a sectional panel reino fably positioned Within the vframe and having its upper and lower edges within the grooves, a horizontally disposed reinforcing strip extending behind the iframe and engaging the panel and means engaging opposite edges oit' the panel to hold the panel sections in position.
