TENT-SECURING DEVICE.

To all whom it may ooncem:

Be it known that I, GEN'rnY D. NEWMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Tent-Securing Device, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in tent securing devices and is more particularly adapted to a stake which when driven into the ground and attached to the tent at the side thereof will prevent the sagging of the tent.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a tent securing device wherein a curved plate is associated with the upper end of the stake, the curved portion of said plate. engaging the adjacent portions of the side of the tent for preventing the tent material becoming torn by the edge of the plate.

A further object is to provide a tent securing device of the above mentioned character wherein a base plate is associated with the lower portion of the stake, the same being adapted to rest on the ground and prevent the stake from sinking into the ground.

A further object is to provide a tent securing device of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, and furthermore adapted to the purposes for which the same is designed.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

r This rectangular shaped member 5 provides a base plate and rests on the ground and provides a means for preventing'the lower end of the stake from sinking into the ground. As is clearly illustrated in Fig. 1, the anchor l is adapted to extend through the eyelet 7 provided therefor in the bottom of the side portion 8 of a tent of any conventional construction.

Supported on the reduced portion 3 of the upper end of the stake 2 is the rectangular plate 9, the inner longitudinal edge thereof being curved and bent LlOWIlWELlCllI as illustrated at 10. The reduced upper end 3 of the stake is adapted toextendthrough the eyelet 11 provided therefor in the upper portion of the side of the tent at the juncture of the side portion with the top of the tent. The curved portion 10 of the plate 9 engages the side portion of the tent and will prevent the material from which the tent is constructed becoming torn and the same time spacing the tent from the stake For the purpose of holding the stake 1 in its proper vertical position, so that the tent will be properly supported and sagging will be eliminated, a rope 12 is secured around the upper end of the reduced portion 3 of the stake while the opposite end of the rope is tied around the anchoring peg 13 in a manner as shown more clearly in Fig. 1. The peg is provided with the auger 1 1 for facilitating the anchorage of the peg in the ground and for the purpose of rotating the peg, the upper end thereof is substan tially square as indicated at 15 and an implement such as is shown at 16 in Fig. 3 of the drawing is provided with a square bore 17 for cooperation with the square head 15 so that by gasping the handle 18 and turning the implement when the same is placed on the head of the peg, the latter will be driven into the ground for the desired depth.

In this manner, the parts arranged as shown in Fig. 1, the tent will be properly supported and there will be no possibility of the same sagging and furthermore the bottom portion of the sides of the tent will be helddown. -The simplicity in whichmy improved tent securing device is constructed enables the same to be readily and easily set up in position for use.

While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changesin the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to WltllOUt departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as ne\v-is:

1. A tent securing device of the class described comprising a stake, an anchoring pin depending from the lower end thereof adapted to be driven into'the ground, said anchoring pin being adapted to extend through an opening provided therefor in the bottom of the side of a tent, the upper end of the stake being reduced and extending through a similar opening provided therefor in the top portion of therside of the tent, and a plate carried by the upper end of the stake, the inner portion thereof being curved, said curved portionbeing in engagement with the side of the tent.

2. A tent securing device of the class described comprising a stake, an anchoring pin depending from the lower end thereof adapted to be driven into the ground, said anchoring pin being adapted to extend through an opening provided therefor in the bottom of the side of a tent, the upper end of the stake being reduced and extending through a similar opening provided therefor in the top portion of the side of the tent, a plate carried by the upper end of the stake, the inner portion thereof being curved said curved portion being in engagement With the side of the tent, and a base plate arranged-on the bottom of the stake and adapted to'rest on the ground.

3. A. tent securing device comprisinga stake, an anchoring pin depending from the lower portion of'the stake-at the inner side thereof and adapted to be driven into the ground, said anchoring pin being adapted to extend through an opening provided therefor in the bottom of the side of a tent, a base plate arranged on the bottomof the stake and resting on the ground for preventing the lower end of the stake sinking into the ground, the upper end of the stake being reduced and extending through an opening provided therefor in the top portion of the side ofthe tent, and a plate arranged on the reduced portion of the stake, the inner portion thereof being curved and engaging the side of the tent.
