Patented Jan. 26, 1926.
CLAYTON A. MQIIITOSH, OF GREYBULL, WYOMING.
FOLDING DRAWING TABLE.
Application filedMarch 20, 1925. Serial No. 17,065.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAYTON A. Moln- TOSH, a citizen of the United States, resid ing at Greybull, in the county of Big Horn and State of Wyoming, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Drawing Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates the provision of a drawing board support designed to be used in connection with a desk table or the like, by means of which the drawing board can be arranged at any desired height or angle with relation to the said desk or table, and capable of being folded into a comparatively small compact article when not 1n use.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in con nection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference lndicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan v1e w.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 21-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side elevation.
Figure 4 is .a perspective view. D
Figure 5 is a view in elevation showlng the device folded.
The device forming the subject mattenof the present invention comprises a base which includes spaced parallel members 10, each of which is longitudinally slotted for a portion of its length as at 11. These members are connected together by transverse rods 12 and 13 respectively, the former being received by the slots 11. The bottom support is mounted on the base in a manner to permit of an adjustment, to vary the height of the said bottom support, or its degree of inclination with respect to said base. The bot tom support includes spaced parallel members 14 which are connected by a cross piece 15 adjacent one end thereof, and a similar cross iece 16 adjacent the other end thereof, the ast mentioned cross piece being formed with a latch 17 against which on end of the drawing board is adapted to rest. The parallel side members 14 of the support are longitudinally slotted as at 18, and are connected together by a transverse rod 19 rece ved by the slots 18 and capable of adjustment therein for a purpose to be hereinafter described. Arranged between the base of the device and the bottom support are diagonally disposed braces 20 which have their opposed ends pivotally connected to said parts as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3. Depending from the parallel members 14 of the bottom support are links 21 which are pivotally connected with said members and also associated with the transverse rod12 associated with the base. Depending and pivotally connected with the transverse rod 19 above referred to are spaced parallel arms 22, each of which is provided with a series of notches 23 adapted to singly receive the transverse rod 13 forming part of the base. By reason of this construction, and arrangement of parts, it is manifest that the bottom support can be raised or lowered with relation to the base by sliding the bolt 12 in one or the other directions through the slots 11, and subsequently holding the bolts fixed against movement by means of suitable nuts 24. On the other hand the inclination of the board with respect to the base may be varied by adjusting the notched arms 22 both with relation to the support, or with relation to the base, as will be readily understood. The height of theboard as well as the inclination thereof with relation to the base can both be varied by adjusting the links 21 and the arms 22. When use of the device is not desired, it may be quickly and conveniently folded in a compact form, by simply sliding the bolts in the direction of the outer ends of the members 10 through the slots 11, separating the arms 22 from the bolt 13 which allows the support to be lowered down upon and parallel with the base, after which the arms 22 can be swung upon the bolts 19 to lie parallel with the members 14 of the support.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
1. In combination, a base, a drawing board support, diagonally disposed braces pivotally connected with the base and said support, links pivotally connected with the support and said base at points between their ends, and slidably adjustable with respect to the base, whereby said support can be raised or lowered, and an adjustable connection between one end of the base and said support whereby the latter can be adjusted angularly with relation to the base.
2. In combination, a base, a drawing board support, diagonally disposed braces pivoftally connected with the base and said support, links depending from the support and pivotally connected with the latter and said base, and also slidably adjustable with relation to the base, whereby said support can be raised or lowered, and notched arms depending from the support adjacent one end thereof, and means carried by the base and cooperating with said arms whereby the support can be tilted and its r egree of angularity varied.
3. In combination, a base, a drawing board support, diagonally disposed braces L pivotally connected with the base and said support, said base being longitudinally slotted, links depending from the support and pivotally connected therewith, the corresponding lower ends of said links being pivotally adjustable in said slots, whereby the support can be raised or lowered, pivoted arms dependingfrom one end of the support, and cooperating means on the arms and said base, whereby the support can be arranged from different angular positions with relation to the base.
4:. In combination, a base including spaced parallel slotted members, transverse rods connecting said members, one of said rods being adjustable in said slots, a drawing board support, diagonally disposed braces pivotally connected with the support and said base, links depending from the support and pivotally connected therewith, the lower ends of said links being connected with the rod arranged in said slots, and capable of adjustment with relation to the base to raise or lower said support, and an adjustable connection between one end of the support and said base whereby the support can be tilted and arranged in different angular positions with relation to the base.
5. In combination, a base including spaced parallel members, transverse rods connecting said members, a drawing board support, diagonally disposed braces pivotally connected with the base and said support, links depending from the support and pivotally connected therewith, means for associating the lower ends of said links for sliding adjustment along said base, whereby the support can be raised or lowered with relation to the base, arms slid'ably and pivotally connected with the support adjacent one end thereof and depending therefrom, said arms having notches adapted to singly accommodate one of the rods of said base, whereby the support can be arranged at different inclinations with respect to the base.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CLAYTON A. MGINTOSH.
