Description

Jam. 19 1-926. v C. W. STUART DISPLAY DEVICE Filed Nov. 24, 1923 lllllllllll Invenfor: fl'lydemzlziam Giant: 2 9W to fit the recess in the tubular portion 3 of the standard or base permitting vertical adjustment of the holder within said standard. It is desirable that the upper portion of the stem 4 be bent or deflected rearwardly herein at 16 to cause the body of the necktie supported thereon, more naturally to assume the shape which it assumes when being worn, thus to more pleasingly display and show off the same.
To facilitate the bending of the member h and still retain the proper shape for fitting said stand, said stem is preferably constructed of round rod with the standardengaging portion retaining its original form while the upper curved or bent part is preferably flattened as shown at 17.
Obviously this flattening process may be done in numerous ways one of which may be by stamping and when so treated naturally more or less of the metal will be displaced laterally, thus making the flattened portion wider than the portion entering the standard.
If desired, the edges of said flattened portion 17 may be ground off or otherwise removed to correspond in width with the diameter of the lower or unstamped part of said stem 1, preferably leaving the extreme upper end the full width as shown at 18, which latter is then bent double at 19 over the tongue 15 thereby firmly securing the cross piece to the upright part 4.
To further insure the retention ofthe parts 19 and 15 in permanent relation they may be secured by soldering or otherwise.
Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate a modified form of collar holder wherein the cross piece 20, in stead of terminating in a short tongue 15, distends into a considerably larger tongue 21 preferably joining with a stem 25 capable of being inserted in the hollow stand ard 13.
To accomplish this result the depending parts of the wires forming said tongue 21 are twisted at 22 for a short distance adjacent to the cross piece to insure a proper binding together of the two arms of the cross piece and these two wires below said twisted part are then slightly separated to form an elongated opening or slot 23 through which screws 24% are inserted to attach said tongue preferably to the back flattened face of the upper part of said stem 25 (see Fig. 4) which is herein adapted to be adjustably secured with the tubular part 3 of said standard as aforesaid, the tongue 21 being forwardly offset at 21 to bring the tie in front of said tongue.
lVith this construction it will be obvious that the part 21, the two wires forming which are integrally united at their lower ends, may be adjusted relatively to the rod 25 by varying the length of the tongue 21 to form the required length of slot 23 The type of tie to which reference has generally been made in the foregoing description is the four-in-hand tie, so-called, but is distinctly to be understood that the device is equally adapted for and capable of displaying a bow tie. Therefore in Fig. 3 a how has been indicated in dotted lines. In order to facilitate the placing of a bow tie upon the holder the twisted part 22 of the tongue 21 is short enough to permit the string of the tie to be laid over the cross piece 20 and through the upper end of the slot 23 between the sides of said tongue after which it is tied into a knot and the bow formed in the usual manner, any superfluous material in said string being looped in any suitable manner at the rear of the holder.
Obviously the same result may be secured from the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 by providing an appropriate opening at a distance below the cross piece and desirably for this purpose the upper end of the stem 4, which has been left its full width after flattening of the rod from which said stem is produced, is slotted at 26, this part be lng entirely concealed when a four-in-hand knot is formed upon the holder and only a portion of the same being shown when a bow tie is supported thereon.
Having thus described certain illustrative embodiments of my invention, I clesire it to be understood that although specific terms are employed they are used in a generic and descriptive sense and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being set forth in the following claims.
Claims:
1. In a display device, in combination, a base portion, a stem adjustably mounted in said base portion having a portion of its length flattened and laterally deflected, a cross piece having a depending tongue embraced by the upper extremity of said stem and forming a necktie support, the eX- tremities of said cross piece being curved laterally and upwardly inclined to embrace and support the neck band of a collar in normal relation to said tie.
2. In a display device, in combination, a stem and a cross piece secured to said stem and having its extremities bent rearwardly in normal contracted relation for embracing and holding a collar, the central portion of said cross piece being depressed to support the knot of a tie a selected distance below the edge of a collar supported by said holder.
3. A display device comprising a transverse member, an upright adjustable supporting standard secured to said transverse member and constituting therewith, means over and about which to form the knot of a tie, and means constituting a part of and extending upwardly from said transverse member adapted to enter and engage the fold of a turn down collar and maintain said collar in normal elevated Wearing relation to said tie.
In a dispaly device, in combination, a stem and a cross piece secured to said stem and having its extremities bent rearwardly in normal contracted relation for embracing and holding a collar, the central portion of said cross piece being depressed and constituting, together With the adjacent portion of said stem, a tie holder adapted to position the knot of said tie a selected distance below the edge of the collar, said tie holding portion of said stem being concealed by the knot and forwardly offset from the body of said stem.
5. In a display device, a collar holder having oppositely bowed resilient arms to embrace the band of the collar, the central portion of said collar holder being depressed and provided With a tongue and a stem having an upper extremity adapted to embrace said tongue and constituting, With the central portion of said collar holder, a form for positioning and maintaining the knot of a tie in normal relation to the collar.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
