To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE R. CRAW, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Service Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in service cabinets for the reception of supplies delivered by tradesmen, and the object thereof is to provide a cabinet, the receiving door of which will be automatically looked upon depositing goods in the recep-,

tacle and closing the receiving door, and thus1 prevent unauthorized removal of the goo s.

This object is accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a construction embodying the invention; and

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

The characters appearing in the description refer to parts shown in the drawings and designated thereon by corresponding characters.

The invention comprises a cabinet I having one or more chambers 2 therein, there being a delivery door 3 through which access is had to the chamber, and also, a receiving door 4 through which access is had to the chamber from the side of the cabinet opposite the delivery door. Where the cabinet has more than one chamber, a separate pair of doors is provided for each chamber.

In the lower part of each chamber is arranged a horizontally disposed platform 5 that is pivotally supported near its front end upon a swing 6, there being a pair of notched ears 7 on the respective sides of the platform that rest astride of the swing.

' The arms of the swing are loosely secured respectively by corresponding screws 8 to the side walls 9 of the cabinet. At the rear end of each platform 5 is rigidly fixed to the bottom thereof a transverse bar 10, and at the front end of the platform is secured a weight 11 of such proportions as to normall overbalance the op osite end of the plat orm while the platferm is sustained upon the swing. A stop 12 is fixed in the bottom of each chamber adjacent the rear face of the weight 11 and serves to limit the rearward swinging movement of the I platform. Alsoa rest, 13 is secured in the bottom of each chamber beneath the corresponding rear end of the platform which serves to limit the downward movement thereof.

Each delivery door 3 has at the lower end thereof a latch 14 that protrudes into the corresponding chamber beneath the platform and engages the transverse bar 10 at the end thereof when the rear end of the platform is in its lowermost position so that the delivery door is thereby locked when closed.

In utilizing the invention the cabinet is positioned in a room with its delivery door exposed to a doorway leading to the room or other opening in the wall through which access may be had to the delivery door from the exterior of the room so the cabinet will prevent ingress through the door or opening into the room. When supplies are to be delivered, such for example, as a package 15, the deliveryman first opens the delivery door and places the package upon the platform. Owing to the weight of the package the platform swings into its lowermost position and bears upon the rest 13. The deliveryman then closes the delivery door and the latch 14. becomes engaged by the bar 10. Should an attempt be made to reopen the delivery door the platform is drawn rearwardly by the engagement of the latch with the bar 10, and the rearward movement of the platform is limited by the contact of the weight 11 with the stop 12, thus preventing the delivery door from being opened. In this manner the delivery package is safely confined in the repository and inaccessible from the delivery side of the cabinet and may be removed at any subsequent time through the receiving door 4. When the package is removed from the platform, owing to the weight 11 the platform tilts upon its swing so that the rear 'end of the platform is raised out of connection with the latch, thus, permitting the delivery door to be again opened for the reception of additional supplies.

What I claim is 1. In a service cabinet for the reception of goods, a repository having a chamber therein; a delivery door for the reposito a receivin door for said repository in ependent o the delivery door; a swing positioned in the chamber; a platform sup= ported on the swing and having longitudinal and tilting movement; a Weight at one end of the platform for overbalancing the opposite end thereof; a stop operable to limit the longitudinal movement of the platform; a rest for limiting the downward movement of the end of the platform opposite the Weight; and means on the delivery door and the adjacent end of he platform operable to lock the delivery door when the platform is tilted by the Weight of goods placed thereon.

2. In a service cabinet for the receotion of goods, a chambered repository havmg a delivery door and a receiving door; a tilting platform in the lower part of the charm her of the repository horizontally disposed and having limited longitudinal movement; and a latch in connection with the delivery door having locking engagement With the platform when the platform is tilted by the Weight of goods placed thereon.
