Description

` L D. GREENLAND FILE HOLDER Filed April 25 1925 Patented Jan. 12, 1926.
, f UNITED stares LLOYD DELNO GREENLAND, OF ions MoINEs'IowA.
FILE HOLDER.
Application filed April 25, 1925. Serial No. 25,852.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, LLOYD DELNO GREEN- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in a File Holder, of which the following is a speciflcation.
The present invention relates to a file holder, and has for its principal object to provide an adjustable structure for holding files of different lengths.
Another important obj ect of the invention is to provide a file holder especially designed for holding` different size three-corner files.
A further importa-nt object of the invention is to provide a bar with a coil spring mounted thereon and prevented from rotation, a second coil spring rotatably mounted on the bar, and having its convolutions threaded in the convolutions of the first spring' and having a rod'extension with a socket for receiving one end of the file, the
u bar being provided also with a pocket for receiving the other endof the file.
A still further important object of the invention to provide a file holder of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, capable of being manufactured at a low cost, strong, durable, and well adapted to th-e purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure l is an elevation of the holder embodying the features of my invention, showing portions in sections, and
Figure 2 is a transverse section therethrough.
- Referring to the drawing in detail, it--will be seen that 1 designates a bar having extending inwardly from one end a socket 2 for receiving a three-cornered file 3. This socket may be varied in its shape forreceiving shanks of different varieties of files, and therefore, I do not wish to be limited to the particular structure shown herein.- The other end of the bar l is provided with a spring member 5 is disposed yabout the bar `lv and has an end thereof projected through .the Opening 4 so as to prevent its rotation on the bar. The intermediate convolutions of the coil spring member 5, adjacent-.the end thereof which projects through the opening 4L are enlarged so as to provide a handle. A second coil spring member 6 is rotatably disposed about the bar l with its convolutions threaded between the convolutions of the member 5, and terminates at one end in a rod 7 having a lateral extension 8 which is coiled to provide a socket 9 in axial alignment with the socket 2.
It will thus be seen that a file may be positioned with its shank end in the socket 2 and its other end socket in the socket 9 and the rod 7 may be revolved about the bar l thus causing movement of the member G on the bar l because of the threaded association betwen the members 5 and 6. It will thus be seen that the distance between the socket 9 and the end of the bar l may be adjusted to accommodate different sized files. It will also be noted that the device is capable of ready and easy adjustment and may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost and will yet be strong and durable. It is apparent' that the present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed merely by way of example, and the numerous changes in the details of construction, and
in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing lfrom the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
I-Iaving thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. In a holder of the class described, a bar having a socket at one end. a coil. member disposed about the bar, a second coil member rotatably disposed about the bar and having its convolutions disposed in threaded relation between the convolutions of the first member, a rod extending from the second member and terminating in a socket axially aligned with the socketv in the bar.
2. In a holder of the class described, a bar having a socket at one end, a coil member disposed about the bar, a second Coil member rotatably disposed about the bar and having its eonvolutions disposed in threaded relation betWen the convolutions of the first member, a rod extending from the second member and terminating in a socket axially aligned with the socket in the bar, one end of the rst member being eX- tended through the bar to liX it against rotation thereon. 10
In testimony whereof I aix my Ysignature.
LLOYD DELNO GREENLAND.
