Description
MILAN KNEZEVIQI-I,` OF` AKRON, OHIO.
Patented Jan. 5, 1926. i
Application filed November 26, 1924. Serial No. 752,426.
To all whom. t may concern.'
Be it known that I, MILAN KNEZEVIGH, a citizen of Yugoslavia S. H. S.,y residing at Akron, in the county Io-f Summit `and State 0f Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Batteries, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in batteries.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a novel form of electrodes for use in wet cell batteries` Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course Aof the following description.
, In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed for designating like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the apparatus embodying this invention,
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View taken upon line II-II of Fig. 1, Figure 8 is a perspective view of one form of electrode employed, and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the other form of electrode employed.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of this invention, the numerals 5 and 6 designate separate jars, preferably formed of porcelain, of about one gallon capacity each.
The ars 5 and 6 are to be filled to the level indicated in Fig. 2 with a solution consisting of two pounds o-f blue vitriol and 4distilled Water. f
In Fig. 3 there is shown a strand of copper Wire, preferably of about three-eighths of an inch in diameter, which copper wlre is bent to provide the straight conducting portion 8, the depending U-shaped bend 9 at one end thereof, the laterally projecting conducting portion 10 atv the remaining end of the U-shaped bend 9, and the straight depending portion 11 at the remaining end of the conducting portion 10. This element is to be associated with the jars 5 and 6 by positioning the depending straight portion 11 in lthe jar 5 and the depending U-shaped bend 9 in the :jar 6, the free end of the straight conducting portion 8 extending from BATTERY.
the jar 6 to act as a lead off or connection terminal.
In Fig. 4 there is shown two blocks 13 and 14 which are each formed by a suitable moldino' operation 'from four pounds of amalgamated Zinc. Each of these blocks has projecting from the upper surface thereof an apertured ear 15 which has extending thru the aperture a supporting rod 16. A strand of copper wire, preferably of threeeighths of an inch in diameter, is formed in the same manner as the copper wire shown in Fig. 3 and includes the straight conducting portion 8a, the depending U-shaped bend 9a, the straight conducting portion 10, and
the depending straight portion 11a. f The depending U-shaped bend 9a is to be molded in the block 14 while the depending straight portion 11a is to be molded in the block 13,
kit being understood that the portions of the wire strand and the ears 15 are embedded in the blocks 13 and 14 when the latter are formed in the manner previously described. This structure is associated with the various jars by arranging the block 13 in the jar 6 with the supporting rod 16 traversing the top of the same and supported and insulated therefrom by the blocks 12, the block 14 arranged in the jar 5 with itsl supporting rod 16 traversing and resting upon the upper edge of this jar by means of the insulating blocks 12, and with the straight conducting portion S extending across the top of the jar 7 and supported at its free end by the insulating block 12. It will be noticed, by inspecting Figs. 2 and 3, that the amalgamated Zinc blocks 13 and 14 extend less than half of the length of the jars 5 and 6.
It is to be understood that the form of this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described the invention, I claimz TES 'PATENT OFFICE@ y' i In a device of the type described, apair., v
mation received ,in said jars, an apertured j ear projecting from the top of each electrode, a rod projecting through the aperture of each ear to act as a support for the electrode by engaging the top of a, jar, a conductor for said electrodes to inseparably connect the saine, said conductor including depending portions permanently embedded in Said electrodes, a portion connecting the embedded portions, and n lead-off part projeeting laterally from one electrode, and a second pair of electrodes for said jars having foi-ined integrally therewith a connecting conductor and a lead 0H conductor.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
MILAN KNEZEVICH.
