Description

UNITED STATES PATENT EEIcE GEORGE E. MILBURN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR, BY MESN E ASSIGNMENTS, TO GEORGE W. FISHER.
IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHMENTS FOR BLACKING-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,810, dated November 10, 1374; application filed July 14,1874.
To allwhom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGEE. MILBURN, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,.have invented an Attach mentfor Blackin g and other Brushes, of which the following is a specification:
llhe object of my invention is to provide an attachment for shoe and stove polishing brushes whereby liquid blacking may be more readily and economically applied than by the usual means, the said attachment consisting essentially oi' a reservoir, A, having a tubula-r projection, b, for the reception of a mass of sponge, h, and a flange, d, by which it is secured to the brush, all as shown by the sectional View, Figure l, and exterior View, Fig. 2, of the accompanying drawing. The liquid blacking is poured into the reservoir through an inlet-opening provided with a cap, e, and is applied by means of the sponge, which absorbs and becomes completely saturated with the blacking, the evaporation of the latter, when the brush is not in use, being prevented by a cap, g, which is fitted over the sponge and tubular projection b. The attachment is secured to the brush by nails or screws z' passed" through the projecting flange d and into the edge of the brush, as shown in Fig. 2.
The reservoir and its appliances form a complete attachment ready for application to any polishing-brush Without requiring special preparation or alteration of the latter, and when the brush becomes worn out the said attachment can be readily detached and applied to a new brush.
I ain aware that brushes have been constructed with reservoirs for the reception ot' liquid blacking, and I make no broad claim, therefore, to a reservoir-brush but I claire as my invention- The Within-described attachment for blacking-brushes, consisting of the reservoir A, having a tubular projection, b, for the reception of a sponge, an inlet-opening, and a flange, d, extending partly round the reservoir a-nd parallel with the sides thereof, as set forth.
In testinony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE E. MILBURN. Witnesses:
WM. A. STEEL, HUBERT HowsoN.
