have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Mattresses, of which the following is a specification.

Thisinvention relates to new and useful improvements in pneumatic mattresses, and, has for its object to provide a comfortable mattress which is a distinct and practical improvement to overcome certain practlcal objections to, and defects in, mattress structures adapted to be filled with air.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a mattress structure, which is simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture and highly efficient for the purpose intended.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and tinally pointed out in the claims hereto up pended.

In carrying out the aim of my invention, 1 employ a suitable fabric mattress casing, or C'OVGl'lHg designated 1. This casing may he of any desired shape, length, width and thickness, as is manifest, and is provided with the upper casing section 2, the lower casing section 3, the end casing sections t and the side casing sections 5.

A suitable endless wire frame member 6 is disposed within the casing 1 and engages the edges of the top casing section 2 and the upper edges of the end and side casing sections 4L and 5 and it is sewed thereto by means of suitable stitches 7 so as to pre vent displacement of the frame member and provide a stiff and reinforced upper edge for the mattress. A like wire frame member 7 is also disposed within the casing 1 and engages the edges of the casing section 3 and the lower edges of the end and side casing sections 4 and 5 and the frame member is sewed thereto by means of suitable stitches 8 to prevent displacement of the frame member and to provide a stiff and reinforced lower edge for the mattress.

a wire netting so as to prevent lateral bulging of the mattress frames under weight of pressure.

The bottom casing section 3 of the mattress casing is slit centrally and longitudinally, as at 11 and the opposed edges of the slit are preferably faced upon both sides of the casing section 3 by means of folder fabric strips 12. These fabric strips 12 are each provided with a plurality of openings 13 for receiving a suitable tie string or cord 14 for lacing purposes to close the opening formed by the slit 11.

A suitable inflatable soft rubber tube or casing 15 is positioned 01' disposed within the fabric casing 1 and is of a configuration to correspond to the interior configuration of the fabric 'asing 1. The rubber tube or casing 15 is positioned within the fabric casing 1 through the slit It in the bottom section 3 thereof when it is unlaced and it is held in position by lacing the string 14; as

shown in Fig. 1. The tube 15 is provided with a suitable valve stem 16 which is provided with air valve 17 so that the inner rubber tube or casing 15 may be in tinted to the proper pressure to provide a comfortable mattress. lVhen the mattress tube 15 is do flated, it is evident that the outer fabric casing 1 will collapse and the mattress may be folded or rolled up into a small package for storage or transportation.

It is evident that a mattress constructed in accordance with the foregoing description will be light, strong, durable, comfortable and sanitary and highly efficient for the purpose intended.

The many advantages of the herein do scribed invention will readily suggest then1- selves to those skilled in the art to which it appertains.

I :do not wish to be understood as having limited myself to the exact details of con struction shown and described, but desire to have it understood that the invention I have shown in the drawings is merely illustrative, as it is manifest that various minor changes may be made in the exact construction and particular arrangement of parts Without departing from the spirit of my invention, hence I reserve the right to make any suchehanges, or modifications as may fairly fall Within thescope of the appended claims when fairly construed.

What I claim is:

1. In a mattress structure, an air inflated elastic receptacle, a fabric casing for said elastic receptacle, a slit formed in the fabric casing, facing strips having openings therein for the side edges of said slit, alacing string receivable in said opening for closing the slit, and a pair of opposed endless Wire frame members disposed Within the fabric casing and sewed thereto by means of stitches for reinforcing the upper and loweredges of the fabric casing.

2. In a mattress structure, an air inflated elastic receptacle, a fabric casing" for said elastic receptacle, a slit formed in thefabric casing, facing strips having openings therein for the side edges of said slit, a laeingstring receivable in said opening for closing the slit, a pair of opposed endless Wire frame members disposed Within the fabric casing and sewed to the upper and lower edges thereof by means of stitches for reinforcing the edges of the mattress and means for connecting the side members of the endless frame members to prevent lateral bulging: thereof When Weight is applied upon the. mattress.
