RICHARD PIE, OF RACINE, WISCONSIN.
HAT HOLDER.
Application filed May 3,

Be it known that I, RICHARD Pin, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Iiacine, in the county of Racine and State of Wlisconsin, have inveuted certain new and useful Iniprovenients in Hat Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to hat holders.
Objects of this invention are to provide a hat holder which is of extremely simple design, which will retain the hat in position against jarring or inadvertent displacement, which may be quickly operated, which is of neat appearance, and which may be readily produced.
An embodime'nt of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a view of the hat holder, a portion being broken away.
Figure 2 is a sectional view corresponding` to a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
The hat holder comprises a plate 1, which may be of any desired Contour, preferably trapezoidal shape shown. This plate is adapted to be attached to any desired support, as, for instance, by means of screws as shown, and is provided with inwardly converging upstrucl: portions 2 providing channels for the reception of the terminale 3 of the spring wire frame. These wire terminals are provided with npstanding ends which project through suitable apertures in the plate l, and aid in retaining` the wire frame in position. The Wire frame is preferahly provided with a relatively large eircular portion -l adapted to surround the Crown 5 of a hat as shown in Figure 2.
This circular portion is joined to the terminal portions 3 by means of loops or single turn helices 5 to provide the requisite resiliency for the frame. Its outer portion may be provided with a hook-shaped manpulating portion 6.
In using this device lthe operator slips his finger beneath the hook 6 and ra-ises the frame to permit the inserton of the hat The Wire frame is then allowed 1923. Serial No. 636,363.
to descend and engage the brim of the hat, as shown, with the crou'u portion projecting z'iutu'ardlv through the curved loop Thisy iuvontion is designed for use in the usual capacity of hat holders for homes or places adapted to accommodate a large numher of people. i
It will he seen that the device is compact and that a plurality of such devices may be arranged closelyr adjacenteach other, therei-y requirinn' a minimum of room.
It is further to be noted that this hat holder admirably adapts itself to he used in a wardrobe trunk where the available space is extremely limited.
It is to he noted that by the construction descrihed, the hat holder may be most cheaply maiuifactured and rapidly produced.
Althoug'h one specific form of the invention has been described in considerable detail, it is to be understood that the invention may take various forms, and is to be limited only as defined in the appended claiin.
I claim:
A hat holder comprising a wire frame having a crown receiving ring-like body portion, said body portion being' upwardly arched between its front and rear ends and having an outwardly projecting Curved portion forming a manipulating hook and having a pair of spaced rearwardly directed arms joined to the body portion by loops, said iminipulating' hook archingzj upwardly to acconiniodate a hal having' a beaded briln and extending` Jeyond such hrim and a relaining plate having; ooves pressed upuardly :from its under side adapted to receive and clalnp said arms when said plate is attached to a support, said plate having apertures at the ends of the grooves, and said arms having` upturned terminal portions adapted to fit within said apertures.
In testimony that I claim the foreg'oing` I have hereunto set my hand at Eacine, in the county of Racine and State of VVisconsin.
RICHARD PIE.
