UNITED STATES ELMER J. BARCLAY, OF DOUGLAS, GEORGIA.
SHOT-CUTTING MACHINE.
Application filed August 28, 1924. Serial No. 734,676.
To all whoa it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'ELMER J. BARCLAY, a citizen the United States, residing at Douglas, in the county of Cofiee and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shot-Cutting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shot cutting machines, one object of the invention being the provision of a means whereby round shot or lead may be cut or slit for use in connection with fishing lines, lead lines for seine, and the like.
A further object of this invention is the provision of an adjustable device of this type in which shot are fed below a hand operated knife one or more at a time.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction thoroughly efiicient in practical use.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete device.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a section on line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates a base which has disposed thereon and attached thereto a blade 6, said base being further provided with a depression or anvil 7 The holding plate 8 which is held adjustably in place by the screw and slot connection 9 so as to assist in holding the shot in place during the cutting operation and while in the depression and against the lower end of the delivery tube 10. This delivery tube is supported in the bracket 11 and carries at its upper end a feeding funnel 12. Also attached to the base is the knife carrying support 13 which consists of the two attaching lugs 1 1, the spaced members 15 provided with the three sets of apertures 16 for the reception of the screw 17 so that the inner end of the blade 18 of the cutting knife may be adjustably mounted to regulate the depth of cut in the shot S or so that the device may operate upon larger or smaller shot according to the length of the fulcrum. The two guide flanges 19 are attached also to the base so that the knife when lifted by the handle 20 will be guided in its movement so as to make the desired vertical cut in the shot. A projection 21 is carried by the knife fulcruming member and assists also in the movement of the knife.
Also mounted upon the base is a substantially V-shaped guide 25 whose ends terminate adjacent the base of the knife fulcrum member and guide while the apex surrounds the outlet opening 22 which leads the cut shot into the delivery channel 23 open at one end of the base.
From the foregoing description it is evident that a very simple counter stationed shot cutter is provided so that the merchant may cut the shot for the purchaser in an accurate and rapid manner and one at a time.
What I claim as new is:
1. A device of this character including a base, a shot anvil mounted thereon, a delivery tube having an outlet adjacent the anvil, an adjustably mounted swinging knife mounted above the base and diametrically across the shot anvil whereby the shot disposed within the anvil will be acted upon by the knife, and a means adjustably mounted adjacent the anvil and opposed to the outlet end of the shot delivery means to regulate the size of the anvil.
2. A device of this character including a. base, a shot anvil mounted thereon, a delivery tube having an outlet adjacent the anvil, an adjustably mounted swinging knife mounted above the base and diametrically across the shot anvil whereby the shot disposed within the anvil will be acted upon by the knife, a means adjustably mounted adjacent the anvil and opposed to the outlet end of the shot delivery means to regulate the size of the anvil, and a cut shot delivery means carried by the base.
3. A shot cutting machine including a base, a shot anvil mounted thereon and provided with a semi-spherical recess for the shot, a shot delivery tube also mounted on the base and having its opening adjacent the recess of the anvil, an adjustable plate mounted upon the anvil also adjacent the recess but opposed to the slot to regulate the distance therebetween to accommodate various sized shots, a spaced fulcruming mem ber mounted upon the base and provided with a series of pairs of openings, a fulcrum mounted in said opening, a knife having one end connected to said fulcrum for movement diametrically across the shot receiving recess of the anvil, and a pair of plates attached 10 to the base and spaced to provide a guide for the free end of the blade of the knife. In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
ELMER J. BARCLAY.
