Description

Dec. 8, 1925 J. MARMoRosKl DOORLOGK Filed April 28, 1925 Patented Dec. 8, 1925.
UNITED STA-TES JULIUS MARMOROSKI, OF N EW YORK, N. Y.
DooRLocK.
Application filed April 28, i925. serial No. 26,332.
To all whom it may conce/mt:
Be it known that I, JULIUS MARMoRosxI, a citizen of theL United States of America, residing at New York city, Bronx County, and State of New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Doorlocks, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to locks and to a type particularly adapted for use with automobile doors.
A. particular object of the invention is to provide a latch lock which willretain the door closed so that the same can not be accidently opened from within.
A further object of the invention is to provide a lock which can not be opened from inside the car after it has been locked from the outside. That is, in automobiles the window may be lowered and in many cases the lock will be operable from the inside to open the door. My invention prevents any manipulation of the latch after the same has been locked. j
A further object of the invention is to provide a lock which can be removed with'- out marring or disturbing the upholstery with which the lock is covered, when the lock needs repairing.
Referring to the drawing wherein I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the lock as it would appear from the inside'of the door, a portion-of which is shown,
Figure 2 is a section through the doorl immediately above the lock and shows an edge view of the latter,
Figure 3 is a view of the lock in side elevation, the cover being removed to show the interior thereof,
Figure 4 is a view in perspective of the lock holder or retainer, and,
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail 5 indicates a portion of an automobile o-r like door having a cut out 6 therein to accommodate the'lock which consists of a base 7 the forward end 8 of which is obliquely disposed to match the bevel of the door edge 9,. the end 8 having screw holes therein through the medium of which the screws 10 may retain the lock base in position. The end 8 is also provided with a latch or bolt opening 11 in which is disposed the bolt or latch locked.
12, the same having sliding contact with the base 7 and being maintainedv inalignment by the boss 13 which projects through an elongated opening. 1/ 1 in said bolt. The bolt is provided adjacent its forward end with an integral projection 15 which has one face thereof engaged by the iinger 16 carried on a collar 17 through a square opening in which, passes the handle operated bar 18. This linger 16 is of course operated by the handle 19 onthe outside of the door, and in turn slides the bolt back into the lock to release the door .in the usual manner, the
bolt itself being normally retained in its ex-v tended position by the spring 20 which engages the rear face ofthe projection 15, before referred to. The rear end ofthe bolt is provided with a cutout 21 and an eX- tended cam portion 22, the finger 23 of a handle operated `collar 24 extending into said cnt-out 21 to render the bolt locked or un- The extension 25 on the collar 24 is cut on its edge to provide two seat porf tions 44: and 45 which may alternately engage a' protuberant portion formed in la spring 26 which is -attached to the lock base` The extended part 25 when the handle` 27y is revolved engages the cam portion 22 to operate the bolt. Therefore, a movement in one direction of the handle will operatethe bolt or latch. The en d of the finger 23 may be turned to engage cut-out 21 so that the bolt or latch 12 can not have free rearward movement when the door is closed. The latch is cammed back by its passage over the keeper plate shown in the outline as at 28, the latch itself beingrounded as at 29 on one side to allowk of its riding over said keeper plate, when the finger 23is not engaged in cut out 21.
The upper or top edge of the bolt is provided with a notch 30 one side of which is "obliquely Adisposed and in this notch engages thehooked end 31 of a lever 32 pivoted to base 7 as by the rivet 33, the other end of sol i the lever being provided with a pin engaging end 34: which is engaged by the free end of a pin 35 which is carried in a lock barrel, the lock being preferably of the tumbler type and key operated, so that when the lock is revolved to locking position, the hook is engaging the notch in the bolt, and the latter will be fixed in position and the door securely locked. A revolving movement `of the pin 35 either raises or lowers the hookedkk end of the leverv32.
which can be removed for repair Without f marring the Yupholstery f and. Ifprovide aretainer 36 of channel formation and substantially U-'shape and having in its endsthe ears 37, the same having openings therein through Which pass the screws 38 to hold the retainer in place in the ,opening 6 of the door. gThesside' of thefretainer Aatfone end isjprovidedwithsimilar openings for the accomodation of: s crevvs39. In this portion I. also. provide an inwardly bent integral vpieceft().inwhich are c ut thefslots 4l. rIhese slots, areva`dapted to rictionally receive the Vj,.prpjections 42 :formed on thel end of the [base 7,; ,So that Ithe, lock" base and its cover .e3'Whemallassembled as'one complete unit may .be slid, .into theretainer 36 and held securelyy ,therein Without j beings)` otherwise .held vthroufggh thefmedium ofzlong ,screws which; are( .objectionable inasmuch I as f they ,becomeloosez and the ylock-rattles and mars fthezinside. of .thefdoon By removing the screws 10 in my construction Ithe Whole lock VVVmay beldrawn output `the door,y for repair or, cleaning' Without damage tothe uphol s stery.
It will vbeevi'dent ltherefore that I have provideda lockfof novel construction and" also, anovel means ,ot .holding the same sevncur'elyin, positionin the door. Further, the j construction ofthel llock is` such rthat the inside handle mayhave a -play orf-ree movei f,ment so .thatfacclidental turning ofthe same will notv open the door. j Further the Whole lmay be covered: with upholstery ,in anyV defsi'red manner Land thereby ,concealed and a -bolt slidable thereon vand having an opening and cut outs therein, ringer members disposed in said cut outs, one of said finger members being adapted to move the bolt longitudinally, and the otherof said nger members being, i adapted 'to' prevent longitudinal movementoflthe bolt, and means in said opening for guiding` the ,movements of said bolt. y y A lock member comprisingA a bolt, having projections thereon, Yone oi which serves asga cam, operatingme'mbers adapted :to eng `gage, said projections to move ,the bolt longitudinally, and the camV engaging voperating` -Ymember having an extended finger `Which vlieslwithinbiie of said .out outs, whereby When saidA member is Voperated said finger Will move the bolt longitudinally.
