To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, HUBERTUS VAN DUYL, subject of the Netherlands, and resident of Amsterdam, Netherlands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to a Mechanism for Moving and Adjusting Forms in Typewriters, of which the following is a s eclfication.
This invention re ates to a mechanism for moving forms fed into typewriters and the like, in such way, that each form will be adjusted in the correct position for starting work thereon and thus prevent typing on the form headings. While primarily for feeding a form web to a platen, narrow paper tapes can also be fed if desired. The device can be applied in apparatuses for automatically writing bills, accounts, and the like. The forms used are fed into the apparatus in the form of acontinuous tape, and the apparatus is so constructed that when all the separate amounts have been automatically typed, the adding and t ping of the total amount takes place, and t en the apparatus is stop ed. In order tobe- 'n writing the next ill on the following orm, it is necessary to move the tape the distance of the unused part of the finished form, and then start the apparatus again.
The same is necessary when the form is not I large enough for all of a given account. In order, in such cases, to avoid writing throu h the heading of a form, the moving of the tape must be effected after typin a given number of lines.
he object of this invention is to obviate this operation and to unroll the tape after writing the total, or after writing a given number of lines, such a distance that a new form is in position to be started. y
The invention provides, that the roller, which carries the paper, is connected to a wheel, the travel of which over one revolul tion e uals the total length of a form, so
that, a ter typing the total amount, or after typing a given number of lines, operating means is switched in, for causing the wheel to complete the uncompleted portion of one revolution.

On an axle 1' is mounted a loosely rotating pulley 1, which is constantly driven, and Whl0h 1s connected with a disc 2 provided with a groove 2' and teeth 2". In the position shown in Fig. 1, the teeth 2 are held free from teeth 3" on a disc 3, which is corinected to a disc lmo'unted loose on axle 1 7" and 10 with the axle 10 of. a paper roller 10, which unrolls the paper on which the typing takes place. Disc 7 and gear 7 are loose on axle 1 while gear 10 isfixed to axle 10".
In the groove 2 of disc 2, are pins 11, connected with the arms of a movable lever 13, pivoted at 12. The lever 13 is provided with a head 14 against which pushes a roller 15, which, by means of a spring, is connected to disc 4, when as shown in Fig. 1, roller 15 and head 14 are opposite each other.
Below the disc 7, is a rod 17, pressed upward by a spring 16, which rod, when pushed down, contacts with and moves a lever 19 pivoted at 18, against the tension of aspring 20, to a position back of a catch 2 The end of the lever 19 is provided with a cam 22, which pushes against the lever 13, when lever 19 rocks on 18 under the influence of spring20, and thus interengages teeth 2" and 3".
When a line is typed on roller 10, the roller is turned one line space by means of mechanism in the a paratus, and by means of the gearing 7, t e disc 7 is also turned one line space. Thus the stop 8 moves away from the stationary pin 5 in the groove 6. The distance between the pin and stop increeiises according to the number of lines yp a All lines being typed, the total amount is then typed. After the total amount is typed or after so many lines are typed as to fill the form, the catch 21 is released, so that the spring 20 can ull up the lever 19, and the end thereof ma e the lever 13 rock about 12. By means of the pins 11 and lever 13 the discs 2 and 3 mesh. In consequence thereof the discs 3 and 4 take art in the rotation of the discs 1 and 2. y this movement the pin 5 moves along the groove 6 in disc 7 which latter does not move, until the pin bears against the. stop 8 after which the disc 7, gear 7, and roll 10 all rotate with the driven pulley 1.
When the disc 7 has com leted almost one revolution, the cam '9 pus es rod 17 down against the action of spring 16, so that the lever 19 is turned back against the action of spring 20 and is againheld by the catch 21. In this way the lever 13 is free to move, but does not at once do so, in consequence of the meshing of the teeth 2" and 3". Only after the disc 4 has made a complete revolution andall theparts have returned to their starting point, does theroller 15 push againsthead 14, to rock lever 13 on 12, so that discs 3 and 4 are separated.
The choice of the gearing 7 may be made I in such a way that one revolution of the disc I causes a rotation of the paper roller 10, corresponding with the length of one of the forms used. For difierent length forms, a modification in the transmission is of course made.
In eliminating some parts, the described device can be used, in cases where no forms tion should here correspond with the space which is required.
I claim: 1. A device for positioning forms fed in tape .form to a typewriter, comprisin a roller for conveying forms, a shaft, a riving means and a driven means loosely mounted on the shaft, a roller connector loosely mounted on the shaft, means causing the roller connector and the roller to move together, a clutch for connecting the driving and driven means, and a pin and groove connection between the roller connector and the driven means.
2. A device according to claim 1, one revolution of said roller connector causin a movement of the roller equal to the lengt 1 of one of the forms. I M
3. A device according to claim 1, actuating means for said clutch, and coacting members on the actuati g means and the driven means for disconnecging the clutch after one revolution of the riven means.
4. A device according to claim 1, one revolution of said roller connector causing a movementof the roller equal to the length of one of the forms, actuating means 'for said clutch, and coacting members on the actuating means and the driven means for disconnecting the clutch after one revolution of the driven means. I
5. A device according to claim 1, a stop member in said groove for causing said pin to drive said roller connector, and means for operatin said clutch.
6. A evice according to claim 1, a stop 7 member in said groove for causing said pin to drive said roller connector, and means for operating said clutch, said means foropcrating the clutch including cooperating members for automatically'disengaging the clutch after one complete revolution of the driven means. I
