JOSEPH E. AMEND, or APPLETON, WISCONSIN.
CnRBoN'ArEn-MILK TANK.
Application filed September 12, 1924. Serial No. 737,342.
To.v all whomizf 'mag/ concern.'
Be it known that I, JOSEPH E.AMEND, a citizen ofthe United States,'and resident of Appleton, 'in thev county of Outagamie and State of lVisconsin, have' invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carbonated-Milk Tanks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to tank construction and is particularly directed to a tank adaptf ed for use with carbonated milk. v
Tanks as heretofore made 'have' not'been satisfactory as it was impossible to clean them'thoroughly and further as the vblock tin liningV did not .adequately cover the bolts,l rivets or other devicesof this general natu re. y p
This invention is designed lto overcome the above noted defects, and objects of this invention are to provide a tank for carbon- .ated milk or similarv liquids which is adev quatelylined with .block tin, which is opened with the greatestease to' permit cleaning and washing of the interior of the ltank, which may be closed in an air tight manner, and whichis of simple and strong cjstru'ction, and may be cheaply produced.
. An embodiment .of the invention is shownl ,in the accompanying drawing, in which the single figure isV avertical sectional.-4 view through the tank. f
The tank comprises an outer-shell'or tank proper 1 which may be of cast iron,'wrought iron or any of the usual materials.
This tank is lined by means of a block tin lining 2 which completely covers the interior Aof thetank, and which has its end portions passed through Atheufper opening 3, and the large lower opening 4. The marginal portions of -the block tin lining are folded outwardly, as -indicated at 5 adjacent the upper end of the tank 'and are *similarlyv foldedl outwardly, as indicated at cent the lower end of the tank. The lower end of the tan'kis` provided, as
f5 adjastated, with a-'relatively large .opening 4 f.
which ermits the free entry of the operators llfand or, of a cleaning instrument, whereby the interior of the tank vmay be thoroughly washed or scrubbed.'
A collar 7 provided with a flange 8 isu -I secured to the tank 1 by any suitable fastenving' means such as the rivets 9. These rivets 9 have their inner ends counters'unkf and headed, as' indicated at 10, and in constructin'gthe tank the heads are located below the hlock tin lining 2 so that such heads are thoroughly protected from contact with the carbonated milk. The collar 7 is inter-i nally threal'ded, as shown in the drawings, and it is to be noted particularly thatl the relatively soft block tin 6 provides a highlyv y satisfactory'gasket between the flange .8 of the collar and. the corresponding face of the tank thus securingy an air tight joint under all conditions.
" A relatively. large threaded plug 11 is i larged upper threaded part 16l which is replug 'is suitably contoured to t the particular type of i movably screwedl into a flanged fitting 17,
and held in place by a'lock 'nut'18.' Any suitable' type of valve 19 may be provided at the upper end of the pipe. The fitting 17l is secured in the same manner as the col'- lar 7, that `is to say, its flanged portion issecured by means of rivets. 20 to the tank 1 and the heads of the rivets are covered by the block tin liningon the inner side of the tank while the folded portion 5 tin forms an effective gasket.
j\ It is to-be understood, of course, that the pipe 15 and the inner side ofthe fitting 17 are suitably tinned.
may be provided with a 'downwardly extending rim o'r flange 21 to protect the' plug.
It will be seen that a tank has been rotin and which is 'equipped with a large aperture adjacent its-lower portion whereby itL may be most readily internally cleaned.
It will further be seen that although the tank is vlined throughout with block* tin If desired the lower portion ofthe tank-4 of the block vided which is lined throughout with b oek i that nevertheless'a vvery effec-tive removable closure has been provided for the enlarged lower opening and thus the tank is eminently suited forthe handling of carbonated milk, and may be most easily kept in a highly Isanitary condition.
Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, it is to be understood that the invention may be variously cmbodied and is, therefor, to be limited only as claimed.
vI claim:
l. 'A device for handling carbiated milk comprising a tank having a relatively large bottom opening adapted to permit the ready cleaning of the interior of said tank and the entrance of an operators hand, a block tin lining completely covering the interior of said tank and projecting through said opening and folded outwardly over the portions of said tank adjacent the.. margins of said opening, aninternally threaded collar having a flange in contact with the lfolded portion of said block tin, rivets passing through said flange and the -adj acent portion of said tank and having their inner heads 'located Within'the tank and countensunk and covered bythe block tin lining within the tank, a relativelyl large threaded plug removably screwed intoasaid collar, and a of said tank and projecting through said' opening and foldelzoutwardly over the portions of said tank adjacent the margins of said opening, an internally threaded collar having a fiangc in contact with the folded portion of said block tin, rivets passing through said flange and the adjacent portion of said tank and having their inner heads located 'withinthe tank and counter-sunk and cov-l ered by the block tin lining withinthe tank,
a relatively large threaded plug removably screwed into said collar, and .a block tin lining for the upper face of said plug, said tank having a downwardly `extending lbo'ti tom flange projecting below the lower end of said plug.A
ln testimony that I claim the foregoing Ihave hereunto set my hand at App eton, in the county of vOutagamie and State of lVisconsin.
