Description

l. W. DOMETT.
Harness-Saddle Pads.
- No.156,454. Patented Nov.3,1874.
' 74727265 3 e s f7; $678237 THE GRPFi C CO. PliOTO-LITKJBS: 4| PARK PLACEJLY UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH W. DOMETT, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
' IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-SADDLE PADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,454., dated November 3, 1874; application filed January 19, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osEPH W. DOMETT. of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Saddles, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a vertical longitudinal section of a part of the same.
Like letters refer to like parts in the different figures of the drawing.
My invention relates more especially to barness-saddles; and consists in a novel construction and arrangement of the pads.
In Fig. 1 my improved pad is shown in section, being composed of cork and felt in alternate layers. In the body of the pad, M is cork, L is felt, and O is cork, Q being the saddlelining. The main body of the cork M is secured to the tree B by means of screws-w 00.
It is well known to harness-makers and livery-men that a pad formed of hair, and secured in the usual manner. soon becomes displaced in the saddle, causing the back of the horse to gall, and making repadding frequently necessary, at a large expense. -Thes e objcctions and difficulties are entirely obviated by my improved pad, Which is composed of materials superior for the purpose to hair, and is retained permanently in position by the screws 00 :20.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is In a harnesspad, the stuffing composed of alternate layers of felt and cork, as set forth.
