Be it known that I. Crraunns A. hiinnnn. a citizen of the United States. residing at Covino'ton. Kenton County, and State 0t Kenhave invented certain new and useful ovemen ts in Torch Tips, ofw-hich the wing is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in torch tips and has relation more particularly to a tip of this general character cspec'ally designed and adapted for use in connection with cutting torches and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and .prcvcd device of this general charactcr which will not flash baclr and wherein the will not explode. I
Another object of the invention is to provide novel and improved d vice of this general character which is made from one solid piece of material and wherein separate chambers are provided for the gases.
T he invention consists in the details ot construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my inin'oved torch tip whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device renl convenient and advantageous for use, as will he hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
in order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

The tip 1 is provided with central bore through which the cutting: oxygen is adapted to-ilow, the inner or inserted end portion of the bore being enuirp ed as at l providing a chamber to tacilitate the dew of such oxygen through the bore At spaced points along the threaded portion, 1 of the tip, the periphery is provided with the annular recesses and 6 each of which being in communication through the medium ot the ports T with the jet openings 8 drilled within the outer end of the tip and preferably,equi-distantly spaced around the bore 8. The recess 5 provides a chamber which initially receives the acetylene gas and where such enters the tip and flows without any hint ance or obstruction to the outer point or working end of the tip. The second recess 6 provides'a chamber to receive oxygen and through which such gas flows to the outer or tip end of the burner. By this arra cement the heating and the oxygen s are ettectively mixed before reaching the point or working; end of the tip whereby flash heel: is prevented and" a-so whereby the possibility of explosion is avoided. This is of particular advantage for the reason that after an explosion or flash back occurs, the tip is burned making it necessary to shut oft the gas, allowing the work to become cold and therefore making it necessary to start all over and preheat again.
It is to he particularly noted that the threaded part 1 of the tip at all points is of the same diameter so that when such threaded part or portion is threaded within the head of the burner, the recesses or chambers 5 and 6 will be closed or sealed and it is to be further noted that the distance between the inner face of the enlargement 2 and the outer end of the threaded portion 1 is such that said inner face of the enlargement 2 will contact with or seat against the end of the head at the same time the outer end of the threaded portion 1 of the tip contacts with or seats against the inner end of the socket of the head in which the threaded portion of the tip is en eged. This structure is of particular advantage as only the two seats are required and together with the threaded portion 1, a tip is provided which is highly ellicient for the purpose designed yet is capable of being produced at a minimum of expense and etl'ectively applied with a minimum of labor.
From the foregoing description it is thoughtto be obvious that a torch tip constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and ope Med, and it will also be obvious that in invention is susceptible o some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to he understood as liu'iiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereina fter claimed.
1. Ins a new article of manufacture, a ti for a cutting torch formed of one piece of material and having a central bore therethrough for the passage of a cutting gas,
one end portion of the tip being insertible within the torch, said end portion being threaded and provided at longitudinally spaced points along said threaded portion with annular recesses to provide chambers when the tip is in applied position. and jet openings leading from the ou working end of the tip, each of said cha? cers having ports in communication with said openings for the passage of either an o) dizing or a heating gas, said threaded portion at all points therealong aside from the recesses be ing of substantially the same diameter.
2. As a new article of n'ianufacture, a tip for a cutting torch forn'ied of one piece of material and liaving a central bore there through for the passage of a cutting gas, one
end portion of the tip being insertible within the torch said end portion being threaded and provided at longitudinally spaced points along said threaded portion with annular re; cesses to provide chambers when the tip is in applied position, and jet openings leading from the outer or working end of the tip, each of said chambers having ports in communication with said openings for the passage of either an oxidizing gas or a heating gas, said threaded portion at all points therealong aside from the recesses being of substantially the same dizmaeter the end of the bore remote from the working end being enlarged to form a chamber when the tip is applied.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a tip for a cutting torch formed of one piece of material and having a central bore therethrough for the passage of a cutting gas, one end portion of the tip being insertible within the torch, said end portion being threaded and providen at longitudinally spaced points along said threaded portion with annular recesses to provide chambers, and jet openings leading from the outer or working end of the tip, each of said chainbers having ports in communication with said openings for the passage of either an oxidizing or a heating gas, said tip outwardly of the threaded portion but in relatively close proximity thereto being provided with an enlargement. said enlargen'ient being adapted to contact with a face of the head in which the threaded portion is engaged and also providing means to apply or remove the tip.
