a county of Kings, city and State of ew York, have inventedcertainnew and useful Improvements in Ferrule-Contracting Machines, of which the following is a specification. 4
This invention relates to ferrule contracting machines, and aims to provide certain improvements therein.
The invention is particularly directed to that type of machine in which by a move- 16 ment of the handle a plurality of jaws are brought forward to their inner or contracting position. The jaws may be restored to their outer or ferrule-receiving position by a reverse movement of the handle, or as in certain forms of such machines a complete movement of the handle from side to side may actuate the jaws inwardly, and then outwardly. v
The invention is applicable to such type :6 of machine, and provides a device having a minimum number of parts, which is strong anddurable, easilyconstructed, and cheap to manufacture.

Preferably the lugs C are cast as a part of the side plate A, so that their outer peripheries may be machined on a 'lathein one operation. Each of the lugs is formed with straight sides F, the adjacent sides of each two lugs forming, a rectilinear guide for one of the dies G. There are preferably four of such dies, and their inner and working faces are suitabl configured in accordance with the work in hand. Another feature of the invention is the ease with which the dies may be assembledwhich best has a tapered periphery K, to
correspond with the taper E on the member E, and the retaining ring is best held in place by means of catch rods L, each of which has ahead L which passes through an elongated opening K in the retaining ring, and which may be turned across the opening, as illustrated in Fig. 1 to hold the retaining ring in place. The catch rods 'L preferably pass through to the opposite ice side of the side plate A, and are best provided with a fiat head M, by means of which the may be turned. To insure the proper positioning of the ring, pins P may be provided 0n opposite lugs which enter holes P in the ring.
I have shown the device as adapted for hand operation, in which case a suitable handle Q will be provided.
While I have shown and described one form of the invention, it will be understood that I do not-wish to be limited thereto, since various changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is 1- i 1. A contracting machine comprising a side late having lugs the exterior surfaces of which are c1rcular in form, said lugs having their opposing faces constructed to form slideways, jaws in said slideways, a circular operating member fitting said exterior circular surfaces of the lugs and carrying members adapted to operate saidijaws,
said members being links formed with enlarged substantially cylindrical heads fitting into circular recesses in said operating member and jaws.
