CONCRETE FORM.
Application filed October 10, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN D. MAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Monroe, in the county of Monroe and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Concrete Forms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a form for concrete, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby concrete walls can be easily and quickly constructed of various widths and the parts of the form taken apart after the completion of the Wall and reassembled for a new wall or part thereof.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated, in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out 1n the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a section on line 11 of Figure 2.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the corner pieces.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of portion of one of the foot parts.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the intermediate portions.
Figure 6 is a View similar to Figure 1 but showing a modification.
Figure 7 is a view of a part of the form shown in Figure 6.
Figure 8 is an elevation of a part of the form shown in Figure 6.
In these views, 1 indicates a plurality of upright posts which are preferably formed of channel iron. These posts are provided with holes for receiving the bolts 2 which are threaded from end to end for receiving the lock nuts 3 and the spreader nuts 1-. The wall forming parts of the form consistsof the pieces 5 and the upper pieces 6 and the corner pieces 7, these corner pieces being made similar to the pieces 5 and 6 but of angle construction in cross section so as to form the corners of the building. Each toot piece has its lower part 8 offset from Serial No. 742,890.
wall. A flange 11 is formed at the bottom of the foot piece and an L shaped flange 12 is formed at the top thereof. The pieces 6 are formed with L-shaped flanges 13 at their upper and lower edges and the bottom flange 13 of the piece 6 is placed upon the flange 12 of the i'ooting piece Then another piece 6 is placed upon the first piece 6 until the form is of the desired height, The pairs or pieces are connected together by the bolts 2 which pass through holes 14: formed in the pieces and the nuts 4% hold the pieces in their adjusted positions on the bolts. Thus the portions of the forms can be spaced any desired distance to make a wall of the proper thickness. The L-shaped flanges of the various pieces are connected together by the usual clips 15. The corner pieces 7 are of angle construction as before explained and the lower parts are provided with the enlarged base 7 and these corner pieces are provided with a plurality of rows of holes 1 1 for receiving the bolts and I arrange the holes in the pieces 5 and 6 in pairs which are arranged closer together than the holes 14 in the corner pieces 7 so that a final adjustment can be made without weakening the corner pieces 7 by placing the holes therein closer together. The pieces 5 and 6 overlap the corner pieces, as shown in Figure 2, while the pieces 5 and 6 have their edges abutting each other and in order to prevent the concrete from escaping between these abutting edges I may provide sliding pieces 16 to cover the joints as shown in Figure 2. These pieces may be made of the same cross sectional shape-as the footing pieces 5 and the pieces 6 but slightly smaller so that they can slide in such nieces and thus be adjusted to properly cover the joints. These sliding pieces can also be used to form extensions of the form Where itis not desired to use the entire width of the pieces 5 and 6.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a wall form which can be easily and quickly erected and disassembled and the parts of which can be adjusted so as to make a wall of the desired thickness. The inside and outside adjustable corner pieces provide means whereby various combinations may be worked out in erecting liuiildings. The vterms can be inverted so as to wake a wall coping.
Instead of' using the pieces shown in Figure 5 I may use the pieces shown at 17 in Figures 6. T and 8 which are formed of the frames 18. to which metal plates 19 are secured. The :tranie rests upon the flanges of the touting pieces and the bolts 2 pass through holes formed in these i aines so that it is not nece sar to use the clips 15. In other respects this torin of the invention similar to that before described. Figure 8 shows how the parts are arranged so that they will break joints and thus increase the strength of the structure.
