HERBERT o. RUssEL or DETROIT, MICHIGAN, AND CHARLES A r a DAYTON, OHIO.
OPERATIHG TRIGGER ron DOUBLE-GUN. viounrrs; 7
Application filed April 18, 1922. Serial no. 555,405. 1
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Hnnnnnr O. RUssELL and CHARLES LEIGH PAULUs, citizens 'of the United States, residing, respectively, at Detroit and Dayton, in the counties of Wayne and Montgomery and States of VMichigan and Ohio, have invente'd'certain new and useful Improvements 1n Operating Triggers for Double-Gun Mounts, of which theffollowing is a specification.
This invention relat-esa'to operating triggers for double gun'mounts, the object being toproduce what may be termed an auxiliary Q trigger assembly adapted to be used inconjunction with any double gun installation a and especially in connection withgun's hav ing pistoljgrips. The "auxiliary trigger asv sembly is adapted to be attached to the trig- I ger guard'of one gun and used for controlling the other gun. The. improvedltrigger assembly allows a full hand on the pistol ,7 grip,fone trigger being operated by the fore finger ofthe hand and the other by the sec- 0nd finger. The mechanism'is particularly adaptedfor use in connection with the present duplex trigger control'for' Lewis guns in which the mechanism nowused is un- 'uardedand there is therefore a chance for accidental firing.
' vthe invention consists in the novel construc- 7 tion, combination-and arrangement described, illustrated andclaimed. V
v In the accompanying drawings:
a showing the pistol grip of a machine gun formed so that they may be clamped upon i Opposite sides of'the trigger guard 3 as in-' WVith the above and other objectsin view,
herein Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation and illustrating the auxiliary trigger assemj bly in its applied relationthereto; V V Figure '2 is an. elevation of the auxiliary ,triggerassembly looking from the opposite side. I I I Figure 3. is an endview of the'same V Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the pistol grip of a; machine gun, 2 the trig- V, ger of said gun and 3 the trigger guard. 7 The auxiliary trigger assembly of this i-n-= vention comprises in the preferred embodi 'ment two oppositely disposed frame pieces -or members 4 and 5 to one of which is permanently secured a trigger guard 6. The
:frame members 4: and 5 are preferably trigger 8 and an operating leverY9.
members Sand 9 have a common axis beingmounted on a short transverse shaftlO suping a full grip onthe gun.
' tures,
Lnrezi PAULUS,1OF' v dicated] in Figure 1, said frame pieces being securely held together and in clamping relation to the trigger guard '23 by fasteners 7' I which may consist of be preferred. 7 V The trigger assembly also comprises a Both screws or bolts as may v ported by the frame members 4 and 5. The Y lever 9 is arranged atone side of the frame tends upwardly abovethe same where, it has a v attached thereto a flexible operating conof the auxiliary trigger assembly and exnection 11 such as Bowden wire control which leads therefrom to the other gun (not i if shown) In" operation the pistol grip l is held the hand with the index finger on the trig: ger 2 and second finger on the trigger 8.
This is a'natural position for the hand and allows-a pull by a grip of the hand; The trigger assembly is adapted to any double guninstallation, and is easily attached to the trigger guard of'one gun and connected 1 to the trigger mechanism of theother gun and furthermore the trigger is guarded particularly, adapted for' use in connection against accidental firing. The mechanism is with the present duplex trigger controlfOr Lewis guns, and eliminates the danger of accidental firing of the guns. The present arrangement requires the use of the last two fingers on the hand.' Under such arrangement the gunner is prevented from obtain- Having thus described my invention, I claim; v
An; operating trigger for a double gun trigger guard ofv one gun, an auxiliary trigo gerassembly including a frame attached to} said trigger guard, a shaft rotatabl-ycar? -mount embodying in combination with the ried bysaid frame, a trigger on said shaft, j
above said trigger guard, andjan operating connection leadlng from the upper endof said lever to the control device of another un. V I
In testimony whereof HERBERTO. RUSSELL.
lever on said shaft extending upwardly we affix our signa CHARLES LEIGHP nus;
