E. F. WILBE SEPARABLE' CUFF BUTTON Filed June 10, 1925 y ...w l m n We Patented Nov. 24, 19235,`
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EBEN F. WILDE, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE BAER 8c WILDE COMPANY, 0F ATTLEBORO, lVIASSACIIUSlEl'lTS.`
SEPARABLE CUFF BUTTON.
Application filed June 10, 1925.
To all to hom it may concern Be it known that I, EISEN F. VVILDE, a citizen: of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Separable Oud Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in separable cuff buttons and the primary object thereof is to provide an improved structure of the male and female members, which enables the parts to be easily and quickly assembled so as to l afford an economical and efficient construction.
The invention further aims to provide a construction that is applicable both to the male and female members, excepting of course the cooperating heads or faces thereof.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectiolal view through the assembled button, an
Figure 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Figure 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, the members are formed of outer heads composed of bases 1 of cupshape and in which filler and strengthening or reinforcing disks 2 are placed.
A ring-like member 3 having a right angular circulai' ange 4 is placed in the cupped base 1 and the rim of the latter then spun over onto the margin Vof ring 3. The shank forming member 4 having flanged circular ends 5 and 6 is then fitted with its flange 5 disposed in the flange 4 of the ring,
whereupon the flange 4 is spun over ontothe circular end 5 of the shank-forming member. The parts as thus far constructed and assembled may be used for either male or female members of the but-ton. In the instance of the male member an inner head 7 of dished or cup-form is provided and which is centrally perforated to receive the head 8 of a button 9, the base 10 of which latter and the head 7 seat on the flanged and 6 Ot the Shank-forming member, The
Serial No. 36,159.
In the instance of the female member, aninner head 11 of dished or cup form is provided and which is also centrally perforated and has a sleeve-socket 12 to receive the head 8 of the male member. The sleeve 12 is diainetrically slotted at 13 to receive the arms 14 on the free ends of a spring member 15. The rim of the head 11 is likewise spun over into engagement with the flanged end 6 of the shank-forming member.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the buttons may be easily and quickly assembled without the use of solder and by simple spinning operations affording a rigidl and substantial construction.
I-Iaving thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a button, a cupped base, a ring on the base having a substantially right angular flange, the rim of the base being spun over the ring, and a shank having a flanged end, which extends outwardly from the shank and the periphery of which abuts the flange of the ring, the free edge of the ange of the ring being spun inwardly onto the flange of the shank.
2. In a button, a cupped base, a ring on the base having a substantially right angular flange, the rim of the base being spun over the ring, a shank having a flanged end, which extends outwardly from the shank and the periphery of which abuts the flange of the ring, the free edge of the flange of the ring being spun inwardly onto the flange of the shank, a male element having a head and an outwardly extending dished base, the other end of the shank being flanged outwardly and dished to receive the dished base of the element, and a dished member perforated to receive the head therethrough and seated against the outer face of the base and having its free edge spun over the dished flange of the shank to clamp the base of the male element against said dished flange of the shank,
3. In a button, a base,v a shank carried thereby and having a flanged dished end,
male element having` a head and an outwardly exfendng dshed base, received in the dshed 'flange of the shank hase, and a dished member perforated uo receive the head therethrough and seated against the outer face of the hase of the head and having its free edge spun over the dshed flange mean? of the Shank to clamp the base of the male element against Said dshed ange of the shank.
In testimony whereo'i:l have signed my name to this speecaton.
EBEN F. VILDE.
