F. STREMER DEVICE FOR BUNDLING LOOSE LEAVES 'Filed 0G12. 22, 1924 21222123 Q d l l ti Patented Nov. 24, 1925.
UNITED STATES FRANK STREMER, OF ATHENS, WISCONSIN.
DEVICE FOR BUNDLING LOOSE LEAVES.
Application filed October 22, 1924. Serial No. 745,222.
To all whom 1f/may Concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK Sfrnnnrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Athens, in the county of Marathon and State of Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Device for Bundling Loose Leaves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for bundling loose leaves and has for its principal object to provide a simple and efficient means whereby any number of loose leaves may be temporarily placed over a pair of binder members to permit the recep tion of the fastening wires which are adapted to pass througl'i the openings provided in the loose leaves, the free ends of the wires being fastened together whereby the loose leaves will be bound to form a bundle.
A further object of the invention is lo provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure lV a perspective view of the device embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof showing the device in use.
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken approximately on line 3 3 of Figure 2 showing one of the wires having the ends thereof fastened together and extending through the loose leaves, and
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the fastening wires.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a substantially rectangular shaped base which is of such size as to accommodate predetermined sizes of a plurality of loose leaves shown at 2. One end of the base 1 is cut away as illustrated at 3 and secured to the respective sides of the cut away portion 3 of the base 1 are the curved lower ends of a pair of binder posts or members Ll and 5 respectively. Any suitable means may be provided for securing the lower ends of the binder posts to the respective sides of the cut away portion 3 of the base 1. The binder posts extend upwardly from the base for a suitable distance as is clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and 3 of the drawing.
Each of the binder posts is formed of sheet metal or the like and the inner opposed sides or faces of the binder posts are slit throughout their length as illustrated at and 7 respectively. The purpose of this construction will be presently apparent. The binder posts l and 5 are supported on the base 1 in such a manner as to extend through the usual openings 8 provided in the loose leaves 2 in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure Q, After the desired number of loose leaves have been placed over the binding posts L and 5 on the base 1 so that the loose leaves are in alignment with each other at their edges, a binding wire such as is shown at 9 and which has one end bent as illustrated at 10 is inserted at the curved lower end of each of the binding posts so that the bent end 10 of each wire is disposed within the lower portion of each of the bind ing posts. Each of the wires is then pushed upwardly within the respective binding posts through the openings 8 provided in the loose leaves 2 until the bent ends 1() of the wires extend above the uppermost loose leaf. The wires are then removed from the hollow binder posts L1- and 5 through the slots 6 and 7 respectively and the ends of each of the wires are then'brought together and twisted as illustrated at 11 so that the loose leaves will be bound at two points as to provide a bundle and prevent the displacement of any of the loose leaves from ythe bundle. The bundle thus formed may then be removed from the binding post and the base and placed away in any desirable place for further reference.
The simplicity in which my device is constructed enables the same to permit a plurality of loose leaves to be readily and easily hound together to form a bundle.
"While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim. of the notch and having their upper and Having thus described my invention, what intermediate portions disposed vertically 1o I claim is: and extending above the top oiI the base, said A device of the class described comprising posts being of hollow form and provided in 5 a base provided at one end with a notch, their opposed faces with the wire receiving and a pair or' loose leaf receiving posts slots. havingl outwardly and downwardly curved In testimony whereof I ailix n'iy signature. lower ends itastened to the opposed side walls FRANK STREMER.
