Description
UNITED STATES FERDINAND BRAUN,`OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PATENT OFFICE,
IMPRCVEMENT IN BED-LQUNGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,273, dated October 27, 1874; application filed August 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern: V
Beit known that I, FERDINAND BRAUN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bed-Loan ge, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 rep resents a top view of myimproved bed-lounge with hinged section thrown open into position for use as a bed; Fig. 2, a front view of the same in this-position; and Fig. 3, a sectional end View as folded up into a lounge or sofa.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improved bedlounge or sofa-bed which is readily and `conveniently thrown into open or folded position for ,use as bed or sofa or lounge, all the parts being rmly and securely connected without being exposed to a .too rapid wearing out of the `outer sections. The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described, andv subsequently pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents the main part of the bed lounge or sofa; B, the hinged seat section, which is thrown into open position and supported on pivoted legs in the usual manner. The hinged section B is provided with a hinged top part, G, that ts over the inclined top part A of main frame A, and may be set under the same inclination as top part A', toward section B, when the same is swung' into open position. Top piece G is rmly retained in inclined position, with its under side upward, by a strong lever-rod, D, with hook end a entering a corresponding recess, a', of the top piece C. Rod D is pived to the upper part of a longitudinal side-board, E, which is hinged to the under side of section B, so as to form in the open position of the section an upright side wall for the bedding. The hinged top piece may be further secured by a suitable latch to the adjoining top part of the main frame, forming a very conveniently-arranged and strong connection therewith, without requiring any of the' upholstered parts to be used for bed purposes, and retaining thereby their appearance for longer time.
For folding up, the rod is detached and hinged board thrown" onto the under side of the seat, and seat with top piece carried back on the main frame, forming a neat lounge or sofa therewith.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of hinged section B, having longitudinal side board hin ged thereto and fastening-rod D pivoted to the board, with hinged top piece C, for retaining the same rigidly in open inclined position, as set forth.
