SAFETY RAZOR Filed Feb, 3, 1925 Mint/M I I I wg WM Patented Nov. 24, 1925.
WILHELM SIM'MELBAUER. MUNICH, GERMANY.
SAFETY nnz on.
a lication filed February 3,1925. Serial No. 6,598.
To all whom it may CO'ILL'IIt.
Be 1t known that 1, W1 rnmr SIMMMW BAUER, a citizen of the German Republic, re-
siding at Munich, Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Safety Razors, of which the follow- "ing is a specification.
Safety razors have become known which comprise a comb adapted to be adjusted in vertical direction in a U-shaped bow m order to sharpen and sjgrop the razor blade.
The blade of a razor of this type can have only one cutting edge and it must be turned 180 when it has to be stropped on the strop situated outside the lever. Owing to the necessity to turn the blade 180 it must be of special construction so that twoedged blades cannot be used for these safety razors. 1
According to the invention a stationary bridge as support for the blade is arranged between the comb and the cover plate on the how, the razor strop being adapted to be inserted into the safety razor after the comb has been withdrawn.
An embodiment of the invention is shown, by way of example, on the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 shows the improved safety razor' in front elevation, and r Fig. 2 inside elevation.
' i The comb or guard a vaulted as usual is composed of two parts co1mected.the one with the other at the middle by a bottom plate I). The bottom plate is slightly depressed from the plane of the side guards (1 whereby the latter will straddle a bridge, hereinafter referred to. a The comb a is guidedin a U-shaped how a so that it can be adjusted in vertical direction by means of a screw spindle d swiveled to the bottom plate and screwedinto .a threaded bore of the handle 6, a sleeve-like head 7. of the spindle projecting from the end of the dle e serving to operate said spindle. The bow c carries a bridge g which has two studs -h and serves as support for the leaf-shaped blade 71 which is covered by a vaulted cover plate is hin edly fixed by meansof hinges Z and adapte to be locked in the covering po- 'until it bears against-the blade 2' and presses han- . arranged the same into the cavity of the cover plate Z':
the bridge 9 being received between the two halves of the comb. The blade is thus bent in upward direction. F or sharpening or stropping the blade thecomb a is screwed .down so that between it and the blade a sufficiently large interval is formed designed to receive the stropping strap 01. on which the blade'is stropped by being moved to and fro. As, owing to the vaulted cover plate lathe blade is always bent it possesses the elas ticity required for stropping when it is adjusted at an angle with regard to the surface of the strap. After both edges of the blade have been stropped on one side, the cover plate is is raised, the blade reversed or turned over, the cover plate again lowered and the opposite side of both edges then stropped.
I claim 1. A safety razor comprising in combination a hollow internally threaded handle, a comb composed of two parts, a bottom plate connecting. with one another the two parts of said comb, a screw spindle swiveled at the upper end to said bottom plate and screwed into said handle so that its lower end projects from the lower end of said handle, a U shaped bow on the handle and in which said comb is. guided,
2. A safety razor comprising a tubular,
internally threaded handle, a U-shaped bow supported thereon, a bottom plate extending between the arms of the U-bo'w'and guidingly embracing the same, a. screw spindle swiveled to the plate and threaded through the handle, spaced guard elements secured to the plate, a blade-supporting bridge supported by the arms. of the Ubow and adapted to be straddled by the spaced guardelements when the: bottom plate is moved up,
wardly toward the bridge, and a corer plate bove the bri ge. V r
v 3. A safety razor comprising a U-shaped how, a bridge secured to and between the arms of the U-bow for supporting a blade,
a cover plate hinged to the upper end of one arm for swmgmg mtopverlymg relation to a. bridge secured to the how, a two-edged" p w I 1 ,562,666
