The combined razor and stropping devices of known type present the inconvenience, that if used as safety razor the blade is not protected by the cover-plate so that it is elastic when being used. The elasticity of the blade causes pain in the skin and cuts. I
An embodiment of the invention is shown by way of example on the accompanying drawing, whereinz- Fig. 1 shows the safety razor ready to be used for the stroppmg of the blade.
Fig. 2 shows the improved safety razor ready to be used for shaving.
Fig. 3 shows the removable rib in side 80 elevation partly in section and in plan' 'ew.
Fig. 4 is a similar view as Fig. 2 the he d plate bein shown in cross sectlon.
Fig. 5 s ows the head plate in plan view and incross section. According to this invention the commonly used head plate a of the safety razor is 1923. Serial in. 641,649.
subdivided into two parts, the head plate proper and into a small rib d which carries the guide pins c'and the screw bolt 0? (Fig. 3). The head plateproper a has a longi- 40 .tudinal groove 6 (Fig. 5) for the accommodation of the'rib d so that the apparatus may be used as safety razor in the usual manner (Fig. 2), or for stropping,in which latter case the narrow rib d is removed from the longitudinal groove 1) of the head plate a,'the head plate a is turned, upside down, as shown in Fig. 1 and the narrow rib d is used to hold the blade 6 on the top plate.
I claim Y I In" a safety razor comprising a guard plate having a convex blade supporting surface, a clamping .plate having a concave blade engaging surface, a clamping bar or rib, a handle, -1nterengaging means between the handle and bar, means-to pro erly position a blade on either of said p ates, said clamping plate being reversible whereby the blade maybe clamped in convexed position between said clamping plate and bar for holding the blade for stropping) or honing purposes, said clamping plate eing apertured to receive the interengaging means and positioning means but being otherwise plain and unobstructed. 35
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
