A reflector 29 of pressed steel and having an inner reflecting surface such as porcelain, is rigidly attached to the outer casing 22 and has a front lens which is protected by means of a convex wire grating. In place of the convex wire grating, a convex lens having wire molded in the glass to reinforce it, may he used. he lens is held in the reflector by means of a water tight rim 31.
The interposition of the dish spring 2t between the outer casing and the loclznut permits the rotation of the reflector so that the light may be projected either up or down as the case requires. This rotation of the reflector in combination with the axial rotation of the supporting rod allows the light to be projected in almost any direction from a single position.
When it is desired to Work close to the floor, the stand 'may be separated by unscrewing the lower nipple of the switch from the upper extremity of the inner rod or tube 7 and unscrewing the outer tube 3 from the threaded stud 2. The internally threaded nipple 9 may then be screwed directly onto the stud of the stand 1, thereby shortening the stand to the extent of the length of the outer'sleeve 3. The portable lamp which is ruggedly constructed to be used in connection with rough work such as garage use or'mine use is particularly adapt ed to work where the light will be subjected to moisture. It will be noted that all the menace connections and light parts are made waterproof and that everyprovision has been made to prevent moisture from entering the stand. The friction elements mounted between the vertically adjustable tubes and the friction ring next to the lamp casing furnish means for quickly placing the light in any desired position. Another feature of the lamp is that it may be readily disasthe removal of the stem from the upright member.
