-Be it known that I, YV LTER. R. KAHNS, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Lighting-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to that class of electric lightingfixtures giving a candle effect, in which a hollow cylinder is em-' ployed to represent the candle. In fixtures of this character, it is customary to mount the lamp in a socket supported in the upper end of the hollow cylinder. In such cases frosted ball lamps are generally employed in consequence of the glare andlack of distribution of light where a clear glass is employed. I

whereby a clear Mazda lamp with standard glassware may be used, diffusing and distributing the light in a pleasing and efficient manner, thus combining ornamental appearance with practicability; and a further object of the invention is to dispense with I the additional support for the lamp socket a chandelier,

bymaking the cylinder representing the candle of such size and character as to cover a standard key socket, and at the same timesupport the shade holder. This construction of candle cylinder does away with the requirement heretofore necessary of putting a switch either in the bracket or candle cup.

The details of the invention are hereinafter particularly described. a

l8 denotes a standard key lamp-socket provided with the usual interiorly screwthreaded stud at its bottom which is screwed down upon the stud 11 of the pipe 10, over the cup and shell, thus securely holding these'parts in place. The key 19 of the lamp socket 18 extends through the slot 17 in the candle cylinder 16, so that'it may be manipulated without disturbing said cylinder. 20 indicates a ring of a size adapted to fit snugly within the top of the candle cylinder 16, and it is provided with a flange 21 at the top edge, which flange rests upon the top of the candle cylinder when the ring is inserted therein. 22, 22 are two oppositely disposed arms, the lower ends of which are attached to the ring 20 on its inner surface. These arms may be secured to the ring by rivets 23, or by solder, or in any other suitable manner. The arms 22 extend upwardly, preferably in a slightly oppositely bowed form, and at their upper ends are secured to a dome 24. Extending upwardly from the top of the dome 24: is a screw-threaded projection 25.

26 denotes a shade which is placed over the dome 24, with its contracted upper portion resting upon the flared lower portion of said dome.

27 indicates a cap with a central opening in its top of a size to permit the passage of the screw-threaded projection 25 therethrough, so that the cap may be placed over the dome and rest upon its top. Thelower portion of the cap covers the extreme upper portion of the shade 26, while the bottom edge of the cap preferably contacts with the outer'surface of the shade which gives a finished and ornamental appearance. After the shade and cap have been placed in position, an ornamental nut 28 is screwed upon the projection 25, into contact with the top of the cap, thereby holding the cap and shade in their proper positions, and preventing the removal of either without first unscrewing said nut.

I claim as my invention:

1. In a lighting fixture, the combination of a supporting tube provided on its free-end with a screw threaded stud, a cup fitted over said stud and provided at'its top with a'concave annular rim and internal annular shoulder at the base thereof, a lamp socket screwed clamping said cup in an elongated cylinder surrounding place,

with its lower end inserted in said socket said annular rim of said cup upon said shoulder in said cup,- into the upper part of said cylinder and provided with a flange resting upon the top of the said cylinder, arms secured at their lower ends to the interior of said ring and extendwhereby a shade may be used in connection with the candle fixture, rendering and resting a ring fitting ing upwardly therefrom, a dome to which the upper ends of said arms are secured, a shade supported upon said dome, and a cap covering'the said dome. and the upper portion of said shade.

2. In a lighting fixture, the combination of a supporting tube rovided on its free end with a screw threade stud, a cup fitted over said stud and provided at its top with a concave annular rim and internal annular shoulder at the base-thereof, a lamp socket provided with a key screwed upon said stud and clamping said cup in place, a cylinder surrounding said socket and having a slot in one side through which said socket key extends, the lower end of said cylinder being inserted in said annular rim and resting upon said shoulder in said cup, a ring fitting into the upper part of said cylinder and provided cylinder, arms secured at their lower ends to said ring and extending upwardly therefrom, a dome to which the upper ends of said arms are secured,-a screw threaded projection extending from the top of said dome, a. shade supported upon said dome, a cap covering said dome and the upper portion of said shade, and a nut screwed upon the said screw threaded projection.
