IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-SHELLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,176, dated October 20, 1874; application filed July 20, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BUPP, of Four Corners, in the county of J eiferson and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Corn-Sheller; and that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The invention consists iua device for shellin g corn, constructed substantially in the manner hereinafter described.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention; Fig. 2, a side view of same; Fig. 3, an end view of same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the several figures.
This implement consists in a metallic plate, A, formed in any suitable manner to fit the palm of the right hand, and having its ends turned up to conform to the side of the hand, so as to afford a support therefor in using the implement, as shown in Fig. 2. The front surface of this plate is studded with teeth a of tapering form. These teeth may be arranged in break-joint fashion or in any other desirable way; and the plate is also formed with an opening, I), through which passes the thumb of the hand. A strap, 0, is secured to one end of the plate A, and after passing around the back of the hand it is fastened to the other end of the plate by a buckle or other suitable device, thus holding the shelling device firmly to the hand.
Having thus described substantially the construction of mysheller, it is operated by simply rasping it down the ear of corn, which is held in the left hand, when the teeth a speedily forces the kernels of corn from the
