citizen of the United States, residing at 'Wewoka, in the county of Seminole and State ofOklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bailers, of which the following is a specification.
I This invention relates to improvements in bailers for wells and the like, the general,
object of the invention. being to provide means for using the bailer to place'water in a well, when desired, without interfering with its usual functions.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the sev eral parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the ap pended claims. 7
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the iceompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like orcorresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which i Figure 1 is an elevation of the device. Figure 2 is a View taken at right angles to Figure 1 and showing parts in section.

In these views, 1' indicates the barrel of the bailer which is provided with a valve seat 2 at its lower end and a bail 2' at its upper end. A jar link 3 straddles the bail and. is guided thereon by the bars 4 which are fastened to the bail, one on each side of the link. The upper ends of the two parts of the link are bolted to the socket member 5 to which the cable 6 is connected. The lower end of the link is provided with a threaded socket 7 for receiving .the threaded upper'end of a sleeve 8 which has a second sleeve 9 connected thereto by the coupling 10. These two sleeves form a socket for receiving the upper end of the valve stem 11 of the valve 12 which engages the seat 2. This stem is formed of sections, as shown, and is connected with the valve by the swivel connection 13 and its upper end is provided with a head 14 which is I stuck in the well.

In thls operation the device is loweredinto the well with the barrel full'of water and with the valve -in closed position i and after the barrel reaches the bottom of the well the link '3 'is permitted to drop into the barreland then to be pulled upwardly so a's to cause the dog to engage the head of the valve stem which upon a further pull on the cable will lift the valve ofi its seat and thus discharge the water. The valve will remain off its seat as long as the link 3 is'held in raised position. y
Spiders 11' are arranged on the valve stem for guiding the same in the barrel.
It is thought from the foregoin description that the advantages and nove features of my invention will be readily a parent.

1. A bailer of the class described comprising a. barrel having a valve .seat in its lower end, a bail at its upper end, a double jar link straddling the bail, a cable engaging member connected with the upper end of the link. a valve for engaging the seat, a valve stem, :1 socket member carried by the lower end of the link and receiving the upper end of the stem, a spring dog for connecting the socket member with the stem and means for holding the dog in an inactive position.
2. A bailer of the class described comprising a barrel, a valve seat at the lower end thereof, a bail at the upper end thereof, a jar link straddling the bail, guide bars on the bail for the link, a cable engaging mem- 15 socket member, a dog carried thereby and 10 adapted to extend through the hole when the sleeve is in one position, a valve for engaging the seat, a valve stem having a head engaging the socket and adapted to be locked therein by the dog and an extension on the 25 valve extending below the barrel.
