Description

Nov l E., A. MARTIN, NE BLACKS-TUN COMBINAT ION POCKT IMPLEMNT Filed Feb. 17, 1921 Patented Nov. 10, 1925.
lMTENT OFFICE.
ELSE A. MARTIN, NE BLACKSTUN, OFST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
COMBINATION POCKET IMPLEMENT.
Application led February 17, 1921. Serial No. 445,834. i
To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, ELsrE A. MARTIN, ne BLAcKsTUN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Pocket Implements, of which the following is a'speclfication, reference being had therein lto the accompanying drawings.
`This invention relates to implements embodyin'g a plurality of units, each unit embodying a plurality of utilities and foldable into compact space, and a container protecting the implements from damage either to such implements or which might be inflicted by the implements externally. j A further object of the invention is to provide a device which shall embody not only a casing for a plurality of implements '20 but a handle and marker for a key-ring, a
device whereby the keys are more conven iently handled and may carry the owners name to identify them if lost.
With these and other objects in view the device comprises certain novel elements, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
j In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the device with the implements partly swung out of the case into view;
Fig. 2 is a erspective view of the device with the imp ements in closed compact po- 85 sition;
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the deice as indicated on line 3 3 of Fig. 2; an
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional View on line 60 1 4 of Fig. 2.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views. l
The improved pocket implement which forms the subject matter of this application comprises a casing or handle member 10 of channel formation, which may be of any approved construction and material, preferabl of stamped metal, although it is to be un erstood that the present invention is in no way limited to such material. At one end the casingv is provided with an eyelet 11 through which 1s inserted a key-ring 12 carrying keys in the usual and ordinary manner said eyeletbeing upset at its opposite ends upon the opposite exterior surfaces of the channel handle. The eyelet also serves as a pivot pintle for a plurality of pivotally combined instruments as for instance anailfile 13' terminating in a button-hook 14, a comb 15 havingthe back at 16 more or less sharpened, which in conjunction with the extremity 17 serves as a paper cutter and envelop opener. Also preferably upon the back of the handle or the side -opposite the opening to receive. the members 13 and 16 a pencil-holder 18 is mounted composed of any approved material and of any approved form for holding the pencil 19 therein.
The handle may also be employed for the purpose of applying a name thereto, as indicated at 20, serving not only, therefore, as a handle for the keys and a container for the implement, but as an identification tag to make possible the return of the implement if lost. At the end opposite the eyelet the handle is provided with abutting flange sections 21, which form a partial closure for that end of the handle, so that the several instruments, as 13 and 16, fold entirely w1th in the channel.
It is believed that from the foregoing description in conjunction with the drawings the use and utility as well as the operation of the device will be fully and clearly under'- stood.
What I claim to be new is:
A combination pocket implement comprising a handle composed of an integral sheet of material folded to channel formation with abuttin flanges forming a partial closure at one en an e elet inserted through the end opposite the a utting flanges and upset upon opposite exterior surfaces of the channel, and a plurality of instruments pivoted upon the eyelet and foldable entirely within the channel.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature st slt A, manu, rte tacxsruu.
