Description

D. 1.. SMITH SOAP BOX OR HOLDER Filed Sept 11. 1924 Nov. 10 1925- avwemtoz Patented Nov. 10,. 1925 Don L. smrrn, or scorn B N wnsnmoronf soar ox on HOLDER.
Application filed September 11, 1924. Serial No. 787,137.
To all whom it concern: I a 7 Be it known that-I, DoN L. Snrrn, a citizen of the United States, resldmg' at South Bend, in the county of Pacific and- State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Soap Box or Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to soap holders for attachment to wash tubs, bath tubs and the 10 like.
scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the'invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a perspective view ofa soap holder constructed in accordance with this invention;
Fig'.' 2 is a plan View with the pivoted soap supporting member sho'wn'in elevated open position; and
Fig. 3 is a transverse section thereof showing the soap holder proper closed in full lines and open in dotted lines. I
- The holder constituting this invention comprises a box or shell 1 substantially rec-' tan lar in form as shown or of any other desired configuration composed of suitable sheet metal having the upper edges thereof rolled to form beads2 in which 1s mounted a reinforcing wire 3 the. ends .of which ex-' tend beyond the rear wall 4 of the casing "and are downturned forming gripping arms 5 preferably inclined slightly outward toward their free ends and which are designed to fit over the upper edge of'the washer bath tub in connection tub, said lug 6 being-adapted to engage the I with which the device is to be used.
A cooperating spacingllu of stop 6 is mounted on the rear wall 4 o the box and is desi ned to cooperate with the arms 5 in holding the box in proper position on the inner face of the tub while the arm 5 gages the outer face thereof.
A rod 7 connects the inner ends of the arms 5 adjacent the upper edge of the rear wall 4 as is shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 3- andforms a pintle for the pivoted soap containin member 10 which has knuckles 11 formec along its rear edge through which said pintle extends.
This soap holding member 10 is preferably made U-shaped in cross section. and spans the space between the front and rear of the box 1 the free front edge thereof be- 7 ing rolled as shown at 12 to snap down over the wire 3at the front of the box which supports said holder 10 in operative position. This holder 10 as shown is rovided v with a plurality of openings here s own' in the forms of slots 13 extending transversely of the holder and which are designed to permit water to drain therethrough into the box 1 so that the soap will be protectedagainst melting. This holder 10 1s spaced a suitable distance from the bottom of the box 1 sothat a considerable amount of water may collect in'said box without coming in contact with the soap.
In the use of this invention the arms 5 are hooked over the upper edge of a wash tub or bath tub with the stop 6 abutting against the inner face thereof and will thus securely clamp the device on said edge, the soap being placed in the container 10 and held ready for convenient use.
When the device is not desired for use on a bath or wash. tub it may be removed and 95 mounted in any other support or it may be set on a shelf or table. v
I claim A soap holder comprising a substantially rectangular water tight container having its opposed ends rolled at their upper edges to form beads, a heavy wire inserted in said beads and extending around the front and rear edges of said container, a'rms'depending 'froln' saidwire at the rear thereof and cooperatlng wlth the rear wall of the container to form clamps for supporting the container on a support, and a soap holder 6 U-shaped in cross section and hingedly connected along one side edge with the Wire in the rear of thevconta iner and having a hookshaped lip at its front end to engage the Me an wire at the front end of the container, said soap holder having transversely arranged 1 I slots to permit Water to peers therethrough.
In testimony that I 0121,1111 the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my s1gnature.
DON L; SMITH.
